Jake slowly pushed open Master's door. It was a room much like the other rooms( small bed, writing desk, and a small closet.) The floor had strange looking stains and so did the walls. Jake took a step forward into the room. As soon as he had stepped inside, the room burst into action. The candle on the writing desk lit, the lamp in the back of the room turned on, and suddenly the door slammed shut behind him.
"Why are you here, Mr. Fisher?" Masters scratchy sounding voice was especially eerie sounding.
"I have news, Master," Jake took another step into the room," It's about Matthew."
Master laughed slowly, "I was hoping that's why you had come here, what is it then? Tell me."
Jake told Master everything.
"Matthew will eventually try to help her escape," Jake said after explaining that Matthew was helping Marlo.
"I know that," Master said, "I'm not a complete fool. Where are they right now?"
"In his room, sleeping," Jake replied.
"A job well done," Master said and then ushered Jake out of the room.
Jake stood in the hall for a moment. He hadn't told Master about the kiss or how Matthew had told Marlo he loved her. He was angry and jealous, except he didn't know why. Maybe it was just a passing phase. It had happened before. He shrugged and slowly walked back to his room.
Marlo stood on a sandy beach, watching the sun set. The sky turned from orange to pink and then she saw Matthew walking toward her.
He reached out his hand to her," Marlo, I thought you were gon-" The ground opened up under him and swallowed him up.
It became violently windy and when she looked up from the gaping black whole that had just taken Matthew, she saw that everything else was slowly fading away into non existence. She waited and listened. She could no longer hear the waves crashing against the shore, or see the colorful sunset, she couldn't even feel the sand that used to be under her feet. All that was left was darkness and the harsh sound of her own breathing.
Marlo felt slimy, slender fingers creep around her shoulders. It was Master.
"Marlo Hope," He said. He sounded an awful lot like Satan and she wondered for a moment if he was and if this was hell," There is no hiding what you have done and this is the price you will pay for it. Look around yourself, this will soon be your life. Darkness. Pain. Loneliness."
Marlo heard him laugh and then suddenly realized why. He had let go of her and now she was falling. She hit the ground hard and looked around herself, she was back in her cell. She was where she had first been when she had gotten to this place.
Marlo slowly opened her eyes. Her whole body ached and her head was throbbing. She quickly looked around. She was no longer in Matthew's room, she was in her original cell. Darkness. Pain. Loneliness. The words echoed in her head and she suddenly remembered her dream. The next few moments were a blur of confusion, anger, and fear.
How could she have been so stupid? Of course Matthew had betrayed her, it wasn't like he could have really loved her. It takes more than just three days to fall in love with someone, or for that matter, to found a true friendship. It still hurt a little to think about him betraying her, it seemed so unreal.
She bowed her head and said," It can't be true, I don't believe it."
"Oh," Jake emerge from the shadowy darkness and stepped closer to her," It's true. that was the plan all along, you were just to blind to see it."
