After meeting Luke in the girls bathroom the rest of the day went in a blur, I spent my time ignoring Jamie and trying not to get in trouble but I still had to go to detention for my outburst in English.

The final bell had rung and I slowly packed up my things, I was trying to waste as much time as possible before I had to go to detention. As I finally entered the classroom where detention was I was both disappointed and confused.

"Matt, what on Earth are you doing in here and what happened to your face?"

Sitting next to the window was my younger brother with a spit lip and a black eye that was almost swollen shut. He looked around nervously trying to come up with an excuse to why he was in this position.

"Before you come up with an bullshit excuse let me just remind you that I can tell when you're lying." I can always tell when people aren't being honest with me it's like my spidey sense; I know it's kind of creepy.

Again Matt didn't say anything and I noticed that the classroom, filled with around 20 students, was completely silent. Despite how I behaved today usually I was rather quiet unless I'm talking to my friends. It's not because I'm shy it's more that I find the cliqueness and stupidity that surrounds high school frustrating, I refrain from talking to stop the sarcastic comments that would take over if I allowed myself to speak up. Don't get me wrong, if someone said something rude or just plain mean I would say something but I try my best to overlook the average stupidity that comes with high school. So I guess the other students attending detention were slightly, by slightly I'm mean greatly, surprised by yet another outburst. I honestly don't understand why I am acting so differently but it has to stop, it's getting me in so much trouble.

"I got into a fight, I'm so sorry Alex."

Matt hung his head ready for my disapproval, he knows I hate violence.

"With who? It's your first day of high school who could you piss off that much in less than six hours?"

He said one word that made my face pale.

"Michael."

"Oh um," I stuttered, "I guess t-than i-it wasn't r-r-really your fault."

Every quietly went back to their own conversations because they could tell that what Matt and I were talking about suddenly had gotten really personal and most everyone at least had heard rumours of what went on with Michael and I. Matt looked at me with guilt and pity. I could live with the guilt but the pity broke me; I found an empty desk and buried my head in my arms while silent tears escaped my eyes. The teacher chose that moment to make an entrance.

"Today for the two hours you little delinquents will be copying out the dictionary."

The previous silence was filled with collective groans and muttered curses while the stack of dictionaries and paper was handed out, it was going to be a long afternoon
