Chapter 10
As soon as I got out of the arena I was taken to med bay. They patch me up.
Then Skylar gave me a long ball gown white dress and a tiara. I put it on and Me, Cashimere, Donny, and Skylar went for the victors ceremony.
I really didn't want to go. I was so tired. I wanted to lay down in an actual bed.
I also did feel right about celebrating 23 people's death, so I could live. I knew most of those people deserved to live over me. They deserved to see their families and other loved ones. I took that chance away from them.
When we went down to the reception hall. I just stood there, exactly where snow told me to be. It was like I was just a good little pawn following the kings orders.
People came up to me. They congratulated me.
All I wanted to say to them was 23 kids are dead. You shouldnt be congratulating me for being the reason the people who loved them are grieving right now.
But I didn't. Instead I just stood there, smiled and nodded.
The night ended with me taking a picture with Johanna Mason. It was a Capitol tradition. The year before victor and the new victor takes a picture.
She decided to walk me up to the district 1 sweet. "How you doing?"
"Um." I didn't know how to answer that. I wasn't doing well. I hated myself right now. I'd never felt this bad.
"I know how it is." She noticed the sad expression on my face. "You hate yourself."
"Does the guilt get better?"
"Probably not. It hasn't for me yet." She stopped. I did too. "You just have to remember that it's not your fault. Someone would have won and felt the exact same way as you are right now."
"Thank you, Johanna."
"My pleasure." She put her hand on my face.
I went toward the sweet and Johanna went up to the 7th floor to get to her sweet.
That night I layed in bed. I was just thinking of the suffering families. How I would gladly give up my life so they could see the person who they loved and died in the games.
But that would mean my brother would be suffering. I couldn't do that to him.
All I could try and do now was be worth the life that they lost. Even though I could probably never completely get over what happened in the arena. I could try and survive it.
