Basil x Reader ✦ Fireside

"...P-Polly?"

Polly looked up from her book to see Basil, looking over his shoulder at Y/N and Kel, who were playing with Pet Rocks. Basil looked back towards her.

"What is it?"

"So... Uhm..." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before opening them. "I... If I were to... h-hypothetically like someone... How could I g-go about telling them?" Polly smirked and shook her head.

"Aww...You're not gonna like my advice~!" She spoke, singsong. Basil sighed.

"Just tell me..."

"Well... I think you should be as direct as possible. Just walk up to them and say 'Hey, I like you, are you interested in a relationship?'"

"I am not doing that."

"Didn't think so." Polly giggled and ruffled Basil's hair. "Well... In that case, I suppose I could help~"

"Huh? How so?" Basil asked.

"Don't worry about it! Besides, I'm sure Y/N feels the same."

"...W-well, thanks, Po-"

"..."

"..."

"N-NOT THAT IT IS Y/N, OF COURSE!" Basil half-shouted. Y/N and Kel looked up.

"Not that what's me?" Y/N asked.

"Ah- well-"

"Y/N! Kel! Polly interrupted, gesturing for them to come over. Kel bounded over, followed by Y/N. Polly looked to the side, trying to formulate an idea.

"Well... I've recently decided to take some of you camping, if your parents allow it. However..." Polly shook her head sadly. "I only have three tickets. One for me, one for Basil, and one for one of you."

"Tickets?" Y/N asked, tilting their head slightly. "To go camping?"

"Ah, well... It's to a particular campsite! Tickets are needed..." Polly chuckled nervously, silently berating herself for not coming up with a better lie.

"Ooh! I want to go!" Kel exclaimed. Polly looked towards Y/N.

"And I'm sure Y/N would like to go too, right?"

"Well, yeah, but if Kel really wants to go that b-"

"Alright! Well, I suppose I'll just have to... flip a coin!" Polly declared. Y/N looked towards Kel, and shrugged.

"Fine by me."

"I call heads!" Kel stated. Polly fished a coin out of her pocket, and flipped it. It landed on heads.

"...Well, what do you know? Tails!" Polly lied, placing the coin back in her pocket before anyone could see it. "Sorry, Kel, Y/N gets to come!"

"I mean, Kel can have my ticket if he w-"

"Nope! Y/N, would you be a dear and ask your parents if I can take you?" Y/N hesitated, but nodded.

"...Polly..." Basil muttered, looking towards her. "What are you doing...?"

"Getting you and Y/N some alone time."

Thankfully, your parents were willing to let you go. Basil was visibly nervous about going, but Polly never dropped her soft smile. The trip to the campsite was a blur; Polly was talking about something or other as she drove, Basil was nervously fiddling with his hands, and you simply sat and listened. As you pulled into the campsite, you couldn't help but notice the lack of tickets.
