Thanks to lordofhello for requesting another Kel x Reader! I've been a little behind on my requests, sorry about that! By the way, Mari is alive here.

You squinted as the sun shined on you from up above. It was the first day of summer break, and your friend group had decided to take a trip to the beach with the intentions to camp overnight. Mari being a saint as per usual, brought copious amounts of sunscreen to keep everybody protected. She laughed as she applied it onto Hero's back, making sure to state, "Y'know Hero, you should be wearing this every day! Rain or shine. Look at the studies!"

He rolled his eyes playfully and laughed as well. "You say that everyday...I think the fact that I'm letting you put this nasty goop on me is enough."

You turned your attention away from the happy couple to look at your best friend Kel. Well, complicated best friend. Now, it wasn't like Kel himself made things complicated. No, of course not. This complication was a team effort in which copious amounts of flirting started occurring over the past few weeks. First, it started off normally. Friendly, platonic, maybe even joking. More compliments, slight innuendos here and there, more calling and texting. Now, some may say this was just a sign of close friends becoming even closer, that your excitement when you received a text from Kel was just the natural desire to have a buddy. It was only over the last week where these justifications grew uncertain. More obvious signs of romantic interest began appearing, like saying bold things in front of the group and becoming touchier.

Although you were relatively new in the group, everybody grew to like you pretty fast, and you felt an almost instant connection when you began talking to Kel. It was for this reason you felt slight hesitation making advances alongside him. Despite your apparent attraction towards him, the apprehension stemmed from the fear of tearing apart your friendship. Though you felt yourself growing to like him with every new day, you didn't want to risk ruining your entire established relationship with him. Kel was like a ray of sunshine, always brightening your mood and just so fun to be around. You loved the way you felt like him and he inspired you to be the best version of yourself. He wasn't somebody you could afford to lose just because of a romantic relationship. You wished you could voice your concerns to him, but alas, you felt as if these weren't the types of things to discuss with your romantic interest, no matter how close you were.

Kel waved his hand in front of your face out of confusion. "Ummm...(Y/N)? Hello? Why are you staring at me?"

You immediately snapped out of it and gasped. "Sorry! I was just spaced out."

"Pfff, okay. Well, welcome back to reality! Are you sure nothing was the matter? You looked kind of concerned."

You shook your head. "No, don't worry about it."
