AMIDST

Chapter 6

NIALL'S POV:

After the lunch, I did not see her until I see her strolling with Zain. What the hell? I pass them giving him a murderous glare. I do nothing the whole day except think about her and Zain. It's 9:15. I should go to have dinner. She is not in the canteen and Zain is with my friends so I am not going there. After having dinner I decide to go and sleep. Laying in bed for may be half an hour, I am not getting any sleep. I don't know what I am thinking about or may be who? Finally somehow I manage to sleep. Following morning, I wake up quite fresh, get ready quickly in my favourite t-shirt and black jeans and leave the hostel for my class. After class as always, I go to the canteen to relax. Its only a few minutes and Mayra comes in with a guy. But this time it is not Zain. Does she have only guy friends? Why does not she befriend girls?

Ignoring my thoughts, I try to occupy myself with my phone, I so love my phone. Soon, I notice that the guy has left and now Mayra is alone. I am alone, she is alone. Should I talk to her? But I reject my thoughts and change my seat to get one a little nearer to hers. Why the hell am I changing seats? Because that seat is directly under the fan, I tell myself. She finishes her lunch and stands up as if to leave but then settles back pulling out a novel. She practically screams 'a girl with glasses reading romance.'

But why is she here? Is she waiting for someone? Just then Zain walks in. Not someone Niall, she is waiting for Zain. I hope they are just friends. How does it matter what they are? I should focus on the game in my phone. I am kind of interested in what they are talking. More curious than interested. Zain is glaring at me every now and then as if a stalker is staring at his girl. But Niall you ain't staring her. She is not worth it. But I am unintentionally doing it. My eyes always rest on her. Suddenly, she turns back. May be she realized I am staring. I seem occupied in my phone and so she turns back and they both leave. What is wrong with me? Nothing is wrong. It is just strange that a fresher is friends with a senior and that too so close. I leave the canteen, reminded of my meeting with Alice.

I have to go to her room. I head towards the girl's hostel and find my way to Alice's room. This is not the first time I have entered the girl's hostel. I have come here with Natasha, Tanya and others and I don't even remember exactly how many times. I bang open the door, not to find Alice and Mayra there. She was wearing heels and may be practicing to walk. I guess this is a part of her preparation for the fresher's party. Alice told me she would be in the room but then where is she? I murmur and decide to wait much to Mayra's reluctancy. Alice comes in almost after fifteen minutes and smiles at me.

" Leave us alone," she tells Mayra to which she refuses. I request by adding a please, leaving Alice in a shock while Mayra leaves. I wonder where will she go?

Just then Alice interrupts my thoughts, " So, what's up? Everything good? You seem lost?"

"Nothing much. Was just thinking about Mayra?" I reply lost.

"Huh? Mayra? Have you lost it?"

Then I realize what I spoke. Embarrassed I reply, "I mean... umm..... I mean she is friends with Zain... Zain- that bloody.... Forget it! Everytime I see her she is with a guy. No girls. I mean a girl with only guy friends? Everytime I am in the canteen she is there too. She looks so pretty."

"Pretty? Mayra?"

"I mean lesser than you obviously. She seems friendly but ignores me. I really can't understand her," I continue.

"Dude! You should not even try. Do you even know what are you talking? You are so interested in a girl first time after Her. I mean I don't like Mayra and you seem to talk nothing except her. She is not for you. I mean you are the stud and she is a bimbo. Don't you think you have gone crazy? Crazy for a girl and that too junior to you. Control yourself Niall. You are into her or what? We have been sitting here for past couple of minutes," she says looking at her watch, " you and me are sitting here and the only thing we have talked about is or rather the only person we have talked about is her." She seems irked but she is right. I can not be so interested in a girl's doings. She is no one. I change the topic to the fresher's party.

"So? What are you wearing for the party? Decided?"

"Not yet" she replies vaguely and we continue to talk for an hour. Just as I was thinking about leaving, there was a knock at the door and Mayra enters.

"Please can I come in if you guys are done? It is difficult to pass time like this in the hot weather outside," she says softly.

"Yes, you may. I was just about to leave," I reply rising from Alice's bed.

"Okay then Alice, we will talk sometime later. Take care, girl. Bye!" I say looking at Alice. I give her a hug and leave their room.
