Jess's POV

Arriving at school this morning I scour the yard for my friends to tell them the news that I'll be participating in the DNA tests.

Spotting my best friend Lexi and her boyfriend Alex, I made my way through the crowds of laughing, fighting and screaming teenagers until I was standing before the pair of them.

"Hey Jess, how was your weekend?" Alex was first to ask, leaving me to briefly explain my grandad's party and how much of an outcast I'd felt amongst my own family.

"Anyway, enough of my lonely life, I signed up for the DNA testing today."

"Why would you want to find out about your dead ancestors, that's not going to change the fact you don't feel as though you fit in, right?" Lexi questioned. To anyone who doesn't know her, she sounds harsh and hostile towards me but the truth is that she really isn't. She's just trying to look out for me, even if it may seem overbearing.

"Well I think it's a cool idea, go for it. Who knows what you'll find out? Maybe your great, great grandma was famous or you're descended from royalty." Alex was always a dreamer but I couldn't knock him for it because he always found a way to cheer us up.

"And what's the likelihood of that? I could just find out that I really am and outcast because I'm nothing like them either."

"You'll never know if you never try it." Alex backed himself up.

"If you must do this, I'm with you."

Wait, did Lexi just say she's with me? I was really expecting more of a protest from her than this.

Halfway through my first lesson of the day, Maths, boring I know. I hear the school tannoy announce that all students participating in the DNA research project should assemble in the main hall, so thats exactly what I do.

I'm standing in line and my nerves are beginning to creep up, I know I'll have to wait at least two weeks before the results are back but the anticipation is already killing me.

What if Alex is right? What if I am descended from royalty or fame? What if I actually share some resembelance to any one of my predecessors?

Lost in my own thoughts, I don't realise I'm at the front of the line until someone tapping my shoulder makes me snap back to reality.

I scurry over to the testing station and take a seat, zoning out as the attendant explains the saliva swab and how everything works.

A couple minutes later I've completed the test and now all I can do if go back to my lesson and try not to focus on the results for the next two weeks, as I await my fate...

A/N - next chapter will be more exciting, I promise, the test results will be back and we start to talk about Marshall.

What are you all thinking of the book so far?

Once again any feedback or suggestions are welcome.
