A month later

One of the many advantages of living with a roommate you took too long to reconcile with is the undeniable relief both people feel when in a confined space. Before, by the time Kaveh returned from his daily errands to the place he still didn't have the key to, he'd anxiously circled around the kitchen like a fly. He'd mingle around with the pots and pans looking for recipes he'd find fitting, or, if the day was unlucky, rip his hair out from the lack of food he could make.

And when the latter would return and swift greetings would be exchanged, not a single word could be spoken. Restricted by his own complex and chained by the overbearing silence, Kaveh could only dig into the food and pray he'd be quick enough to finish eating. That way they wouldn't need to stay anywhere near each other's proximity.

But it is no longer like that.

The entire living room was blessed by a strong aroma of homemade soup. With the window next to the kitchen opened, it was the perfect allure for any bypasser. Among the sound of finches chirping beyond the window and the bubbling of the stew, a familiar sound joined in.

"You're back early." Kaveh commented while stirring the pot. He learned to recognize every one of Alhaithams moves and sounds; from the clanking of his keys being hung on the key-hook to his footsteps towards the living room.

The man nodded, even though he knew Kaveh had his back turned on him. "There was a meeting scheduled at half past five. I took it as an opportunity to take my leave." Alhaitham explained himself as if his blatant escape wasn't unprofessional in the academy's eyes.

The latter threw a glance over his shoulder, seeing Alhaitham make his way toward one of the cabinets in the kitchen. "Don't they talk about important things during those meetings?" He interrogated Alhaitham who was already picking out the dishes for the food.

"Things I can read about in the report tomorrow. Their blabbering is just useless noise." He murmured, taking out two bowls with matching designs, alongside two vintage spoons inlaid with gold.

Alhaitham had gotten used to every kind of aroma that would circulate in his home if Kaveh were to make food. From Sabz stew to a simple salad, all were equally the most adequate option to him. Besides, how could you complain about free personalized goods?

Kaveh grunted, picking up the pot from the stove and placing it away to cool it off. "You really need to start taking your job more seriously. On days like these, they'll notice how much of a good-for-nothing slob you are and kick you off the chair." He knew his attitude would only annoy Alhaitham further, especially with his unshakable nature, but he wasn't one to skip out on causing a fuss.

But the architects blabbering went from one ear to another, whooshing away like a cool wind. Alhaitham had already prepared the table, leaning against it with his crossed arms. His eyes had wandered to the open window and the abnormally loud chirping sounds outside of it. "Finches?"

"What? Haven't seen one before?" Kaveh murmured. His tone was dead serious, though it was most likely due to the fact that he can't let Alhaithams prior problem go.

The Scribe shook his head. "They don't usually infest the windows." But was immediately greeted by Kaveh finally turning his face towards him, though it was just to berate him.

The blonde pointed the wooden spoon, the tip of it dripping with delicious soup, towards him. "Hey, watch your mouth. Infest sounds awful." He turned back to the soup,, continuing to add any remaining spices. "They've been chirping all morning, so I had no choice but to feed them."
