The euphoria should have lasted a lot longer. Arthit held on to it for as long as he could. He was helped along by Kongpob's willingness to stick around.

"I'm done with the hazer activities," he informed him.

"But you know what comes next. Your internship is going to be hell." Arthit said with an evil grin.

"Not if I get into a good company. And I can always work with my dad if the worst comes to the worst." He considered it for a moment then, feigning a shudder, added, "That might actually be the only hellish option on my list."

"You don't want to work with your dad?" Arthit didn't expect that. He'd figured Kongpob would automatically want to have the hands-on experience at the factory.

"Working with my dad is the same as doing anything with my dad. The pack comes first. I do whatever is required and we make sure the business stays in the black."

"Is that so bad?"

"How is it a learning experience if I've been doing it since I could hold a pencil? I want something, different."

"Like going to college."

"Yes. Something that expands my awareness instead of repeating the same things I've grown accustomed to. If we want to grow and change with the times, we have to know what the times are actually doing. Life can get very insulated in the pack and that has led to problems in the past. Things only changed when the people in charge were willing to change."

Arthit understood that.
He even applauded it.

He was able to hold on to the feeling until P'John set him up again and left him holding the ball.

At first, he'd been at a complete loss. Torn between calling P'John on his behaviour and dealing with the problem at hand, he'd tried to channel his mate's pragmatism. It worked. After going through multiple catalogues, Arthit found what he was looking for with Siam Polymer Group.

What were the chances that the only company that could make the specialized stirrers for their blenders was his mate's family business?

He tried going through official channels but nobody would pay him any mind. The hostility wasn't as subtle as he'd faced when he first joined Ocean Electric. They acted like he'd stolen something from them then come back to steal some more. The pack members were angry at him but he didn't know why.

"Is there something I'm missing," he asked Alpha Kerkkrai when he finally decided he had no choice but to make use of his connection.

"We've had some unpleasant experiences with Ocean Electric. I can understand how most of our agents are no longer willing to work with them since P'Win left."

Arthit hadn't heard the name before but if there had been someone doing a good job, why were things so bad? Asking as much got him a stare from Alpha Kerkkrai so similar to his son's that Arthit nearly jumped out of his seat. The pale-yellow eyes were a lighter shade but the menace was real.

"Your current procurement officer leaves something to be desired."

Arthit knew who it was but just to be sure he asked, "You mean P'Earth?"

"No."

The answer settled inside him like a rock. P'John had a reputation outside Ocean Electric and it was not good. What would Alpha Kerkkrai say if he knew about the rumours he was spreading? He'd read about all the ways packs dealt with wayward members but there had been nothing about wayward humans in their world.

Things didn't look good for P'John. Perhaps keeping his head down would have been the plan. All sympathy for him vanished when P'John took credit for his find. Finally ready to make up his mind, Arthit was more than happy to give P'John a wide berth. Easy to do since P'John seemed preoccupied to the point of being useless.
