It wasn't easy to keep his Wolf in check. Once he knew it was there, it was a constant presence demanding his attention, like a recalcitrant child. Arthit understood how Kongpob could differentiate his desire from that of the animal that lived in him.
He felt the pull to his mate at the most inopportune times—often when he was trying to do something else. More than once, he'd been halfway to Kongpob's dorm room when he should have been making his way to work.
"When will it settle down?" He asked Kongpob on his way to work after failing to keep his Wolf from derailing his plans and showing up at his door.
Kongpob laughed. "You act like it's not every bit a part of you. It wants what you want but won't admit. If you stop trying to hide that desire, it might be more cooperative about when it goes after what it wants."
"You're loving this, aren't you?"
Kongpob didn't answer. He just pushed his mate into the waiting taxi, "Have a nice day at work. And don't forget to go see P'Durian about my certificate."
Arthit had agreed to collect Kongpob's paperwork since Kongpob didn't have the time to come to Ocean Electric and give the hazers final pointers as they stepped into their roles with actual first years. His concern for Kongpob was undone when he showed up at P'Durian's desk. She gave him a look that said she was more interested in fishing for details about his love life than doing her job. He knew better than to engage but she still managed to get him to talk about his mate.
"Is that all?" She said giving him a disappointed pout. "He's fine and he's enjoying being back at school? You aren't going to tell me anything else?"
"Aren't you bored with me already?" Arthit asked as he plucked the brown envelope from her hands after her failed attempt to put it out of his reach. "I'll tell him you miss him and he should at least come by and say hello. How about that?"
"Go on with you," she said dismissing him like she couldn't get over his teasing.
It felt strange to know everything had changed but it was still the same.
Some differences were more obvious than others. Like meeting Alpha Danai's son, Day. It was so weird to know he was a Wolf, to understand he was a beta, to do it all with one look at the boy and have him categorized and cleared. It was more disconcerting to know he'd been in Kongpob's company within the last 24 hours because he could smell his mate on him.
<Is this the kid you were telling me about?> He asked Kongpob after sending him a picture of N'Day from their meeting in the boardroom.
<Yeah. How do you know him?>
<Small world. He's Alpha Danai's son and he's going to be working here during the break.>
<Good luck with him. He might have hated SOTUS at first but I think he finally understood what we were trying to do.>
<You learnt it all from me.> Arthit boasted and the 100% emoji he got back made him laugh out loud even though he'd been texting so he wouldn't disturb his colleagues.
"Is that Kongpob you're talking to?" P'Earth asked.
"No," he lied. "You know I don't only talk to Kongpob, right?"
"Yeah. But he's the only one who makes you smile so hard you look like your face might split."
"Stop looking at me. You should be looking at your boyfriend instead."
"He's not..." P'Earth spattered but she lowered her voice and gave him a threatening glare. "N'Arthit, you are mean."
It was enough to stop P'Earth from minding his business but he took the time to sign off and remind Kongpob they were meeting at Bright's bar later that night. He sent back an <OK>.
