I wave at the two awkwardly, a nervous grin on my face. I recognize the purple one, but did he recognize me? The two turtles stare at me, clearly expecting something. Maybe for me to respond? I wasn't sure, the turtle with the blue mask seemed to have talked more out of nervousness than genuine curiosity. I chew on my cheek, thinking it over.
They both blink up at me, and I shift on my feet, still searching desperately for something to say. I scour my brain for a name to stick to the recognizable turtle, but nothing is popping up. Did I forget his name? I grimace to myself. I hope not. I look back down at the two, unsure. Would Irma be mad if I invited them inside? I shake my head. It wasn't like I could ask, my phone was definitely busted from that throw. It wasn't worth the risk of upsetting her.
"Hi." I state dumbly, nothing else coming to mind that would fix the situation in the slightest. I knew staring was rude, but they were just so pretty. Plus, the purple one was staring at me this whole time, so it must not be a big deal to them. A foggy interaction between us from Repo's plays in my mind, but I brush it off. I make sure my eyes never linger on either of them for too long, opting to stare at the fire escape or the surrounding buildings instead so they don't find me creepy. The one with the red crescents on his face glanced at the other with a look on his face I couldn't quite decipher. The purple turtle finally looks away from me to face his companion with a scowl on his face.
The purple turtle opens his mouth to speak, but the blue-masked turtle shoves his face down while he stands up, ignoring the angered grumbles of the still laying turtle. He sticks his hand out to me, a bright grin on his face. "Hi! Sorry we kinda crashed at your window. The name's Leo, but you can call me anytime." He ends his sentence with a wink towards me, my eyes rolling fondly at his antics. His upbeat personality drew me in and I smiled at him. It seemed he was just as eccentric as I remember the purple one being. I could sense a shift in mood him, the purple turtle seeming upset at something.
I climb out of the window to sit on the exaggerated sill, taking Leo's outstretched hand and shaking it. I notice the unnamed turtle glaring daggers at Leo. He seemed upset about something, as if falling here had ruined his plans for something. Leo chuckles nervously, taking me by the shoulders and pushing me towards the silent, staring turtle. I could feel my throat dry as I looked at him, his gaze and body language just screamed danger. I shook it off, after all, I had met him before. He was super cool last time, and I doubt his personality changed.
I walk closer to the familiar turtle and extend out my hand, giving my name again as I do so. "Hi! We uh, we've met before, right? At Repo's junkyard? It's nice to see you again!"
He stares at my outstretched limb for a moment, looking conflicted at the sight. The turtle sighs as if he was finally giving up something he loved. He lightly grasps my hand with just his thumb and forefinger and lightly shakes it before retracting his hand.
"Donatello, but please refer to me as Donnie. And yes, we met at Repo's. I remember you well." He simply states, ignoring the way his companion grins knowingly at him. I tilt my head a bit, continuing to study his face. It had been so long since we last met. The way he said he remembered me put me off, as if he wished he didn't. I take my hand back, sucking in a breath. This was too awkward.
"Okay, well, cool. Uhm... What brings you to the neighborhood?" Leo snickers at my attempt to make conversation, his arm suddenly slumped over my shoulder as he leans on me. I eye him curiously. The way he acted was like an old friend, as if he already knew me. I shrug it off. He was probably just really extroverted.
"We were just in the area. And you know, some things happened, which were no one's fault really, and we just fell onto the fire escape outside where you are." Ah, so it was his fault they were here. Got it. Donnie groans dramatically at the slider's words, crossing his arms over his chest. A compartment of the metal shell on his back, I think he called it his 'battle shell' at the junkyard, opens, two long silver arms that resembled spider legs popping out. He grabs us each with one, shoving me and Leo apart. Leo rolls his eyes at the scowling turtle, sticking his tongue out for emphasis.
