chapter 5

It was raining outside, raining hard rather, it didn't let up nor did it stop

Aubrey sighed as she would look out the window

"First the fog, then now it won' stop rainin'..." Aubrey sighed as she would go back to putting ductape on the handle of her fire axe

For Aubrey it's been a while since she's been outside but now again, they're running low on supplies and she has decided to venture out into that dreadful fog once more, putting her backpack on after packing it up with stuff

She would be walking out in the rain through the streets of her old town; however it was unusually empty, at first this would be a massive relief to Aubrey, however something soon felt off, as if the entire fog is watching her

She would shrug it off, trying to relax and not thinking much of it... Wait why was she thinking like this?

She would suddenly began to panic as never in the fog she dare let her guard down, so she would hurry and over, before finding a possible abandoned survivors house, she would quickly go inside and close the door behind her, she would look around and pull out her fire axe

She would began her search by slowly entering a bedroom inside the house she would search for supplies of any kind, however she would find a old ham radio that seems to be in working order as well

"I'll be takin' this for later" she would say as she would put the ham radio into her backpack, before hearing static coming from the front room TV

She would walk over to the front room and slowly inspect it, looking it over before hearing a voice come from it

"I AM YOUR TRUE SAVIOR"

Almost on queue, she would hear something tapping on the front door

"LET ME IN, I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE AUBERGINE"

Aubrey would feel fear once more, however the voice was kinda familiar to her, but she tried to not think much of it, this is a life or death scenario and she would decide to just go the window, however once she got out of the window and started running all the lights in the street would being flicker rapidly and as she would look up, her face would fill with pure unfiltered terror

It would be a 20 foot tall thing with long, thin legs and arms, also long claw like fingers as well, she wouldn't waste a second and bolt away from the house and down the street to the nearest sewers

The thing looked familiar in a way but once it spotted her it let out a ear piercing scream, before charging directly at her and not letting up at all

"OH SHIT OH SHIT!" she would say as the creature gave chase, it was closing the distance between her and itself, thus Aubrey was forced to improvise, she would grab her fire axe, she knows she can't outrun it, hell she should have stayed in the house and his from it for it to go away, but no matter, either it's now of never

Once it was about to grab her, Aubrey turned around, swinging with all her force and trying to cut off it's hand since its arms are so thin

It works, she would see the hand fall to the ground as it bellows out another screech, she would then target the legs and easily cut through them

The creature would fall down and land on the street, Aubrey wastes no time as she cut it's arms off

However before she would cut off the creature's head, she would recognize it, she would recognize the voice

"Henry?" She would say, axe in hand, slowly having everything sink in for her

"oh... Oh god..." Now she either let him live or end him now

"I'm sorry Henry, I'm so sorry" she would say before starting to lift up the axe over her head

"Aubrey... I'm sorry..."

Then there was silence, the head would roll of to the side as Aubrey would stand there, after decapitating Henry, in utter shock of herself, she would sigh and put her axe on her backpack, she would then get up and start walking back to her safe house, but hey she now has her ham radio... But at the cost of losing another old friend... The air around her felt stale as she would look back, she would see her younger self, staring at her, silently judging her
