Chapter 2- The News

May 28th

I woke up and laid there staring at the ceiling. I then rolled over and grabbed my phone. I first checked the time. 10:45 . I'm surprised my mom didn't come wake me, then I see the text, "went to run errands and then having lunch with beck and Laurel. Be home after. Love you! "
After lying in bed scrolling on TikTok it's now noon. I decided to get up and take a shower. After my shower I decided to get ready for the day. I put my hair in some breads and did some light makeup. I put in a pair of Nike shorts and a T-shirt. I then head to the kitchen to find something to eat. After looking around the kitchen, and seeing we have no food. I head to the door, I slip on my Chacos and head out the door.
I pull into a parking spot and grab my purse and book. I walk into Starbucks and see my friend Ava working. She gives me a smile and ask "are we doing our usual today" I reply "of course, what else would I do." We both kind of chuckled. I then scan the room looking for a table. I grabbed one in the corner surrounded by big open windows. I sit my things down and grab my book and start reading. I then hear Ava call out my name "Emerson" I look up, "your order is ready." I put my book down and walk up to the counter, I tell her thank you. As I am grabbing my coffee, I look over that the register and see the cutest boy, I have ever seen. We make eye contact and he gives me a smile. Of course I get embarrassed. I put my head down and go back to my table. When I look back up I see the boy with a girl. Of course he has a girlfriend look at him. And she is so much prettier than me, she had long brown hair and a gorgeous smile. She is tall, and she is wearing this cropped tank top and short Jean shorts. If you put us in a room together, nobody would even take a second look at me.
I read about 2 chapters on my book, when my mom text that she was in her way home. So I decided to pack up my stuff and head home. On my way out I say by to Ava. I notice that boy looking at me. He is probably think to himself "that girl looks like a bum" but he's not wrong. On my way home I roll down my windows and jam out. I finally get home after a ten minute drive. I pull in and see my mom unloading things from the car. "Go on a shopping spree?" I asked.
My mom laughed "kinda, beck talked me into.. I got something for you too!" "Really" I have her a funny look. "Yeah, you can wear them this summer at cousins." "Cousins that place you went to in college?" I crossed my arms. "Yep!" She replied " Beck, invite us to come spend them summer with her and Laurel!" I hadn't seen my mom this happy since my dad passed. I was a little annoyed she didn't talk to me first. She then starts heading inside. "Don't worry they both have kids. Beck's got two boys, Conrad who is a year older than you and the Jeremiah who is your age. The Laurel had a son your age, Steven. The she has daughter a year younger than you, Isabel." We get in the kitchen and she sets things down. "Well at least their kids are my age. When do we leave?" She smiles at me. "We head down on the 1st."

Well looks like this summer will be interesting.
