I don't know what's wrong with me, to be honest. It was a simple task and I screwed it up, again. It's my second day here and I am not doing as well as my resume said I would be.

"I'm sorry Victor, I've been trying but I can't seem to figure out this copy machine, I really didn't mean to jam it."

Victor, the sales manager, gave me a discerning look and continued to smack it, saying, " It's really not that hard. For someone who attended Yale, I think it would be easy to figure it out. This is the second time this happened already."

I looked around the room and felt the many eyes lasering my skin. I know that I should know better, but I don't like how much I am being ridiculed for my mistake. I'm embarrassed.

"Look," he sighed. "Make yourself useful and please call maintenance."

I dismissed myself to the far corner of the room and used the office to phone maintenance. In the corner of my eye, I saw a group of salespeople mocking me.

Honestly, the machine was pretty confusing. It was very large and has 3 places to insert and take paper from. There were many buttons and I've never seen a copier like it. I would defend myself to them, but I don't want to risk any further humiliation. I'm only 23, yes I went to Yale but I am not a genius.

"Lyric, did you call?" Victor yelled to me.

I stumbled back over and assured him they're on the way.

Sometime later, I was introduced to a very cute girl named Margaret. She was very petite but had a very cute and round face. Her attitude was sweet. She was meant to tour me around before I would begin my serious duties.

"Okay, so right here is administration, you will be spending most of your time here as you will be serving Mr.Maddox, got it?" She stopped in front of a set of glass doors with a gold sticker "admin" on it. All of the other sectors had similar stickers, but were labeled with titles like Human Resources, Sales, and even advertisement. The advertisement wing was the smallest section, but I was told it was because there wasn't a heavy employee need.

I stiffened when I realized I was thinking for too long and blurted, "Yes ma'am!"

I blushed as she let out a small chuckle, "Great! I'm glad. It's not very hard to find your way around the company. I'm glad to finally have a fresh face!"

"Thank you, Margaret! So, what position do they have you in?" I began.

She stopped, but then smiled brightly, "Oh, I'm the only girl in advertisement. Charlie, Blake, and Timothy are my coworkers. My section manager is Mr.Furchi, aka Brian. It's a very small sector, but you don't need that many people when you're good at your job!"

It was refreshing to have someone as bright as her around. Her smile was pleasant and because of how cute she looked you couldn't help but smile too.

"Okay, okay! Thank you. You're really a great refresher after all of the negativity I've gotten so far." I decided to thank her.

Her smile darkened a bit, "Negativity? I'm sorry to hear that. I know that it can be hard working here sometimes, they have you temporarily in sales, too... What a shame."

She put her hand on my shoulder and leaned in a bit to whisper,"Sales is a bunch of asshats to be honest."

I couldn't help but laugh. Not only was the curseword out of her shocking, but her bluntness was hilarious.

"Jeez! Is it actually that bad?" I snickered.

"Hell yeah. Victor, the manager who scolded you earlier, is a total sexist. All he cares about is himself, and he literally is such a brownnose to Mr. Maddox." She talked and lead me to the break area, where we sat at a table by the window. "Victor and his little minion Rebecca are such leeches off of him. I think Mr. Maddox knows but he doesn't do anything about it as long as they make him money."

I adjusted myself in my chair and spoke, "Is anyone good in sales?"

She shone again, "Yessss!!!! There's always Peter. He's so handsome." She rose her hand and over came a waitress. Margaret ordered two coffees and a set of macarons, then winked at me and mouthed "on me".

"You know, you may have a chance!" I teased.

She blushed and sipped her coffee,"No way! He's like extremely out of my league. Peter is really handsome. Like, really. Tall, built, blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. Perfect beach boy look... I wanna take him to the beach just to see his abs."

She said the last part with that same unexpected bluntness as before, which of course made me laugh.

"Margaret, be careful, HR reports for sexual misconduct are way more common than you think!" I teased.

She put on a fake shocked look then said, "Wouldn't be my first rodeo!!!"

Margaret was such a pleasure to have around, and unfortunately break was over. Now, I'm back at sales doing excessive labour.

"Lady, I need staples." A chubby man requested condescendingily.

I stood up from the empty desk they let me borrow and raised my eyebrows at him. He smirked as I walked over to the shelf that was literally 5 feet away from him. I grabbed the pack and slammed it into his hand.

"Here you go, sir." I put emphasis on sir.

He scoffed, but had the balls to reassess me, "Fix the attitude we don't need that here."

As much as that pissed me off, I ignored and continued filing my info.
