Songs from birds and blissful laughter from children echoed in a small park somewhere around Chicago. People taking their pets for a stroll. Old men going head to head in a Chess match. Men and women jogging at their paces. A normal sunny day but...
In just a matter of minutes, dark clouds covered the place. Strong winds gushed ferociously taking anything on its path. Thunders replaced the laughter with cries of pain and agony. Lightning dug grounds, hit power lines, and damaged properties. Chaos emerged out of nowhere. Tattooing death, despair, and confusion on that 1st day of November.
I was holding her head against my chest when Cassandra pinged my consciousness.
"Ed's calling" She said.
"Your timing is unbelievable" I said.
"Huh?" Ariel wiped her tears and looked at me.
"I-I'm sorry but I gotta take this."
I walked a few steps away from her."Where are you??" Ed asked.
"I'm somewhere. Why??"
"Where is that somewhere??? Are you okay?!" He sound alarmed.
"Of course, what's going on?" puzzled. I asked.
"Stay off the grid. They're finding you." Now this doesn't look good.
"Who's they?? and why--" So many questions lurked in my mind all desperate for answers.
"There's no time, they're here. I gotta go." Ed hung up.
"Joe, you've got to see this" Cassandra pulled up a video footage of a catastrophic event in Chicago and displayed it in front of me. It was all over the news and social media. The worst part of it,
I was blamed.
"Allegations point to Mr. Joe Madrid" CNNN News coverage.
"Moth*rF*ck*r's cooking something up!"
"He's weaponizing nature! He must be stopped."
"He needs to be executed!"
"Justice for Chicago!"Comments from netizens all over the world.
"Wow"
I couldn't believe my eyes how media really was so good at programming people's minds. I was left in awe on how the people I once saved turned their back against me in an instant. For a second, I doubted my choices. I doubted myself for not seeing all these coming. But I realized, none of it mattered anyway. I don't deserve all these hate. I need to get to the bottom of this but the alarms sounded. The Entrance to my city was barricaded. They're waiting for my return like I was a cold blooded murderer.
"Joe, this is madness." Ariel saw the news from her phone.
"C'est la vie" I answered.
