Jisoo has always thought that the forest looks most beautiful at dusk.
She's never been allowed to stay out late past sundown, so she learned to treasure those last few minutes of taking the path on her way home through the dusk. She's always been a curious little bunny; hopping her way around the forest all day long, gathering all sorts of pretty flowers and wild berries to bring home to her grandma.
Everyone in their village was so awestruck by her. A little bunny hopping through the woods with seemingly no fear of anything that could be lurking out there. How fascinating. The villagers would always worry for her, telling their precious bun to be careful; who knows what could be waiting out there to hurt her? But Jisoo's heart belonged to the journey of the unknown.
The woods have never been unkind to her. The branches part way before her and the wind whispers tales of its journey into her ears. Jisoo spends her mornings picking blackberries and wild garlic, and her evenings running below the flock of birds to see where they might be headed this time around. Her red cape blows behind her as she tries to keep up, airy giggles getting tangled in the rush of the breeze.
Jisoo knows these woods like the backs of her hands. Knows that when she takes the corner past the bed of moss by the waterfall, she'll find the squirrels high on the trees; all she needs to do is shake her pockets once and the sound of peanuts rattling will make them come to her in no time. There's nothing Jisoo finds more endearing than seeing their cheeks puff up with the nuts she's brought them. She wonders if they take as much as they can get to bring home to their babies. The thought of feeding a whole squirrel family makes her preen. She hopes they eat well.
Other times she'll find deer drinking from the river or resting by the shore. And sometimes, they'll even allow her to get close. Not close enough to touch, but just to smile and wave from a distance. They look beautiful, with wide dark eyes and soft fur. Jisoo wouldn't want to disturb their peace. Sometimes she'll take some of the berries from her own basket and leave them on the ground for the deer to eat once she's gone. She sits behind the trees and watches curiously with her nose scrunched up in excitement every time they do.
Jisoo's seen some of the villagers using deer hide as rugs. Her neighbour, Suho, has one right by his front door. It brings shivers down her spine. She can't imagine ever seeing one of the lovely deer in the forest being anything but lively. She likes watching them walk and explore their surroundings. Even just the sight of them drinking water has Jisoo cooing. Thinking about them being unable to do that anymore...That's a thought that unsettles her deeply.
Jisoo knows there are predators out there looking for them. And she understands they have to eat as well. Jisoo loves food, even though she could never imagine eating meat, but she can understand why others might have to. There are big creatures out there that also need to survive. But Jisoo also knows that those creatures hunt for any prey they can get. Even small bunnies like her.
