Chapter 18

Atlas stands at the door shooting daggers at me. "Atlas please-" she cuts me off with a snort, "I invite you into my home? Give you a fucking bed to sleep in, and this is how you repay me?" She shakes her head in disgust. "Get the fuck out of my house."

My vision blurs as tears trickle down my cheeks. I can see the damage I have caused to our friendship. Her eyes reveal the heartbreak and betrayal I have committed. I wrap Caspian's sheet around my body and stumble to the bathroom to retrieve my clothes.

Caspian and Atlas' hushed arguing can be heard through the porcelain tiled wall. Guilt seeps into my throat as I hurriedly shove my arms into my t-shirt and wriggle into my shorts.

The door to Caspian's room is cracked and I see Atlas' sock clad feet as I dart down the stairs. I grab handfuls of my belongings and frantically shove them into my bags.

I rush out the door before Atlas can chastise me any further. My car clock reads 1:37 am. I pick up my phone and dial, saying a prayer.

Jack answers on the third ring, "Yo Tempest, what's up." His voice is scratchy and raspy from his slumber. "Jack, I need a place to stay, can I come over?" It's obvious from the nasally tone to my voice that I have been crying. "What's wrong? What happened?" My voice wavers, "I'll tell you when I get there." "Okay I love you, be safe." I wipe a stray tear off my face, "I love you too, see you soon."

The car ride to Jack's seems to take forever, not even my music can distract me from the abundance of thoughts swimming around in my head. I take a deep breath as I pull into his driveway, preparing myself for the hoard of questions he will have waiting for me.

Jack opens the door before I even get the chance to knock, engulfing me in a suffocating hug. "How ya doin?" he says softly, with me still in his grasp. "Awful." I say into his wrinkly band t-shirt.  He pulls away and meets my eyes, "Spill."

Jack's eyebrows are practically touching his hairline when I finish telling him every gory detail of the night. "Wow, there's a lot to unpack here." I fall back onto the bed dramatically, "She's gonna hate me forever." He rolls his eyes, "I wouldn't say forever, but to be fair you did fuck her brother." I smack his arm "I knowwwww, shut up jesus." He sighs, "Well it's definitely gonna take some time." I shake my head, "I fucked up so bad, I wouldn't blame her if she hates me forever." He throws a pillow at me, "now you're just being dramatic." I chuck it back at him, "I just need a distraction."

Jack gives me a mischievous look I know all too well. "There is a party tomorrow at Jake's if you're interested."

I smirk, "Perfect."

Jake's parties are known to be some of the craziest functions in high school history, probably not the best idea given my fragile state but fuck it. I need to forget everything, even if it's only for one night.
