"You're reading for Sadie, right?" I ask.
I obviously already know but I suck at small talk.
"Yeah, so I'm guessing you're playing my girlfriend?" She laughs a little.
"Yeah, I guess so!" I say.

The drive to the party was silent. There was a new, odd tension between Sophie and I that I wasn't a fan of.
It only took about ten minutes to get to Kaylies. We parked on the side of the street along with a lot of other familar cars. "Hey, can I give you your present before we go in?" She asks and I nod my head, unbuckling.
Sophie smiles as she unbuckles her seat belt, then twists in her seat to reach a little bag in the backseat. "Here." She says quietly, handing me a little purple bag.
"Thanks." I smile, taking the white tissue paper out of the bag. I pull out a little, black, velvet box, and set the bag on the floor of the car.
I open the box, seeing a dainty gold necklace. I pick it up out of the box, holding it carefully in my hands. It's a gold chain, a little gold rectangle hanging in the center. Engraved in the rectangle is 'liza&sadie' on one side, and 'maze&soph' on the other.
"Oh my God, this is beautiful, Sophie." I say, leaning over the center console to hug her. "I'm glad you like it." She laughs. I pull away from the hug, looking back at the necklace. "I love it. Thank you so much." I say. "You're welcome, Maze.
"Will you put it on?" I ask and she nods. I hand her the necklace, turning around and pulling my hair to one side. She drapes the necklace over my head and claps it. I fix my hair, pulling it through the jewelry so it sits right.
"Thank you so much, Soph." I say, leaning over and giving her a soft kiss on the cheek. She smiles, unlocking the car so we can both hop out.
We walk up to the door, knocking when we get there. It opens quickly, revealing Kaylie. She's wearing a light blue party dress, I love her style.
"Happy birthday!" She says, opening her arms. I walk in, hugging her tightly and mumbling a thank you. We pull away from eachother, me turning back to Sophie who's still standing outside awkwardly. "Kaylie, this is Sophie." I say, holding my hand out to her.
She takes it, smiling and stepping into the house. "Nice to meet you, Maizy talks about you all the time." Kaylie says, closing the door behind us. "Bro." I mumble, smacking her arm.
"Maizy!" I see Athena running up to me. I drop Sophie's hand when Athena hugs me. "Happy birthday, my love." She tells me before pulling away, I thank her. Athena grabs my hand, pulling me into the house more.
There's colorful lights and music playing. There's food all along the kitchen island, and a bunch of my friends in fancy party clothes.
"Happy birthday, sis." My brother Raeden says, coming up to hug me. When I pull away, I turn around, expecting to introduce Sophie. She wasn't there though, I saw her talking to Kaylie in the kitchen while eating food together.
"How are you?" I ask my brother. "Good. How are you? How's twenty one treating you?" He asks. "So far, not terrible.". I smile. "Okay, cool. I'll go make you a drink. First time we'll drink together, legally anyway." He laughs, walking towards the kitchen.
"Sooo, tell me everything." Athena says. "What do you mean?" I laugh. "Sophie! Dude, how's that going?" She asks, nodding her head to the brunette in the kitchen. "Oh, uh. It's not. I don't know." I tell her.
"Hey, ladies." Jenny said coming up to join us, drink in hand. "Hey, J." I smile. "Happy birthday, so how's the girlfriend?" She smirks. "She's not my girlfriend. And like I was telling Athena, it's not really anything." I tell her.
"Bullshit. I filmed and edited your q and a. You guys were so flirty the entire time. And also she's looking at you right now." Jenny says. I look over to the kitchen, seeing Sophie immediately turn away. She's still talking to Kaylie, and now my brother.
"Rae, what's taking so long?" I yell from the living room. "God damn. Just turned twenty one and you're already an alcoholic!" He laughs. I hold up my middle finger for a moment, before turning back to my friends.
"She's right, Maze. I watched the video, she's definitely into you." Athena says, making Jenny nod in agreement. I shrug before telling them, "Maybe, but it doesn't matter either way. She made it kinda clear she thought it would be weird for us to be anything more than friends considering we're going to work together."
"For you, my ladies." Raeden said in a weird voice. He held out a drink to each me and Athena, Jenny already having one. "Thanks." I say, immediately taking a swig of whatever alcohol was in the cup.
"Thank you, Rae." Athena says, taking the cup and holding it in her hands. "Yeah." He says, nodding and walking off. "The fuck was that?" Jenny asks, making us both laughs. "You have a crush on my brofher." I say. "No, maybe." Athena says, making all three of us giggle.
