Toriel leads you to a bedroom that seems to have hosted many kids before you. Toriel tucks you in, and even though you're sixteen, seventeen in five months, you welcome this affection, and give it back. (Don't be dirty minded about this, people! Toriel's like a mom) When you wake up, you see a big slice of butterscotch pie. Your favorite. You smile and take a big bite, and your stomach rumbles in approval.
"So good!" You moan, as you drift off to pie heaven. As you go to the living room, you feel like you are loved by someone. It's been a very long time since you've felt this happy. You find Toriel in her cushiony chair by a crackling fire, reading a book about snail facts. When you enter, Toriel looks up and smiles at you.
"Good morning, my child! I'm glad you are up! I thought we could use this morning to get to know each other a bit better. Do you want to start?" A pit slowly forms in your stomach. Your past is anything but what you want to talk about.
"Um, you can go first!" You say, a bit too quickly. Toriel pretends not to notice and starts to tell you about her interest in snails and baking, how she is the caretaker of the Ruins, and how she likes to teach children.
"Now how about you?" Toriel inquires. This is it. The story you've never told anyone, but have had to carry while covering the pain with a smile.
"Okay." You take a shuddering breath as you collect yourself. "Up till I was twelve, my life was perfect. I had the two best parents in the world and the best little brother ever. One day, I was sick with fever. They all went shopping, and a truck hit them. And just like that I was on my own. I didn't know until I saw the news the next day. So, I was sent to the orphanage. My friends helped me through a lot of that time, but the horror stories I had heard about the orphanage were true. We never had enough to eat, we were punished if someone even made the tiniest slip, and we had to work whenever we weren't at school. To get some extra food, I had snagged a decent paying job at the public library So I made due with the free school breakfasts and lunches, then used whatever money I had to buy food on the weekends. After I was thirteen, I was able to snag a decent paying job at the public library, where I read to younger kids. This worked as well as it could. I got by, but, but," You try to keep going on, but there's a rock in your throat, and soon scalding tears run down your face. Toriel rushes over to console you, and you lean into her. (THIS IS SANS X READER, NOT TORIEL X READER)
"I..I..It's hard, Toriel!" You sob. "I miss them, and I just don't know what I should do."
"Oh, my child. I know it's hard, and you're so brave. You can cry." Toriel says to you.
And maybe it's the crying, maybe it's the weight lifted off your chest, but this feels like home.
AAAUUUGGH I almost cried writing this chapter! So sad! I just want to say, I appreciate all of you for reading this. Thanks for taking the time for this! I'm rooting for ALL of you going through hard times. I recently lost my Great Grandmother, so if you guys are mourning someone, I feel you. I hope you all have an amazing day!
