IVY

AS IF I WASN'T stressed enough, Melanie was badgering me with so many choices to choose for Cole's party.

The only reason I asked her for help was because I thought she'd be doing the planning. Not me.

"White or black?" She pointed between the contradicting colors.

I'd assume she would do everything alone. My opinion wasn't obligatory.

I shrugged. "White? I don't know."

Just as I thought, my answer held no purpose. She went with black.

Cole's party had been my main focus—No. It was supposed to be my main focus yet for some unknown reason the only thing I could focus on was Myles.

Not him specifically but, the deal he offered a few days ago.

It was weird. Out of the ordinary.

Not only was it weird for him to offer me that deal but even weirder for him to talk to me.

He never asked anyone for anything, especially if it was someone like me; he referred to us as entitled pricks. If he had wanted me out of the race, he'd deal with it on his own rather than talk to me directly.

I was contemplating if I should tell my father.

I knew deep down I should but no good would ever come from it.

"Ivy. Are you even listening to me?"

I wasn't listening to her. I couldn't listen to her. Not when his words had been battering my head. It was all I could think about. I don't know if it was because I was actually considering it or because of the sudden confrontation.

'Drop out'

My throat cleared. "Ahem, sorry. Go on."

"So you'll get the kegs?"

"What?"

"Were you paying attention?"

I nodded, yet my words deceived me. "No.."

Her eyes rolled, "You're handing the beer kegs for his party. I can't get my hands on any without my dad finding out."

"Yeah, yeah. Fine with me."

Though I knew it'd be a hassle for me to get some kegs, it wasn't the top of my worries. The beer keg was the least of my problems.

That was a problem for future me.

"Something is off with you, you're being weird and zoning out."

I couldn't help but be inattentive to Melanie. It had been days since the confrontation with Myles but it was still the only that had clouded my mind.

I told him no. I denied his deal. I didn't want it.

So why the hell couldn't I stop thinking about it?

"I've just been ..distracted."

"Oh, I think I know what about.." Her eyebrows wiggled, insinuating something I think I'm far too naive to understand.

"What? Why are you doing that thing with your eyebrows..?"

Nudging me, she grinned. "You know exactly what I'm talking about.."

I didn't though.

I had no idea what the hell she was talking about.

Her smile dropped within seconds of my desolated answer.
