Set after the calamity in Hyrule warriors: age of calamity
AU explanation: so basically in this AU I made the Sheikah much more badass ninjas- i made it so there is this special training that a person can start when they are like 12 and end when they are 22- this is what Impa took when she was little and decided she wanted to be a highly trained guard/ninja. The training helps with increased sensitivity to one's hearing, ability to "sense"/detect(?) someone's heartbeat, much sneakier and able to hide in plain sight, increased agility, and an ability to go without sleep for long periods of time (Impa basically learnt how to survive of off 5 minute naps that she can take while standing/ doing pretty much anything) In this AU Impa is Zelda's personal guard instead of Link and is basically with her 24/7 making sure she does what she's supposed to and is safe. This also means taking care of her sometimes (brushing her hair, cleaning her wounds, etc.) Link is instead just there with Zelda a lot as a second/extra guard as they both train their respective powers together (even if Zelda's powers don't work)
Impa knocked on Zelda's door as she was supposed to take the princess to eat breakfast. "Princess? Are you awake?" She had a key to her room but still always made sure to knock just to be respectful.
As she opened the door she saw a still sleeping Zelda covering her ears with a pillow. As her personal guard Impa should have woke her up, but as her friend she let her sleep in for a few extra minutes while putting out a dress she could wear and casually sitting down on the side of her bed "c'mon Zelda, I gave you 10 extra minutes... you have breakfast to eat and the pancakes will go cold" Zelda seemed to instantly open her eyes though she shut them again because of all the sudden light. She slowly got up rubbing her eyes while looking at a smiling Impa "pancakes?" Was the only thing she managed to make out in her half asleep daze.
It took her another minute or two to come to her senses but when she did she instantly got dressed and apologized for sleeping in "wait- for how long were you at my bedside? Since you said you let me sleep in..." Zelda questioned raising an eyebrow at Impa while she brushed her hair "hm... I watched you sleep for around five minutes? You snore by the way" Impa added at the end with a sly smile to which Zelda didn't seem surprised to "well, at least I got to sleep in... even if that meant I had to endure you being creepy-" Impa chuckled "hey, what else could I have done? Anyways you always look so peaceful when you sleep" Zelda sighed "yeah, yeah... well, do you have any idea about what's on my schedule for today?"
Impa took a second to brush out a few bratty strands of hair before responding "hm... im pretty sure your free for most of today- just your regular training with and without Link and then after Lunch your pretty much done; we are going to the mountains in a few days to see if a shrine helps your powers show themselves, but nothing today" Zelda frowns at the mention of her failing to show her powers. "Hm, yes... that seems like it could help." Impa caught on to her change of tone and quickly tried changing the subject "well, anyways! Since you're free today that means we could maybe do something? There is going to be a super moon if your interested-" Zelda looked up at her "I'm not allowed out of the castle at night because it's dangerous... unless you have something planned?"
Zelda and Impa did always have something up their sleeves, was it to steal some extra sweets from the kitchen or to sneak out of the castle at night "maybe... only if you want to" Impa responded with a smirk. Zelda giggled at her response "alright... well, what's the plan?" She spun around in her chair now fully facing Impa, she always got very excited at the idea of doing things she knew her father wouldn't approve of since she was stuck inside the castle all day. "Hmm, I'll tell you once we are there. Just keep your window open" Impa said mysterious as always, she loved seeing Zelda happy and excited like this, some of that princess persona she puts on in front of other people cracking away slowly while the two were alone.
