I flicked through the channels as I pulled the covers around me. It had been a few days since I had to move in with Taehyung and his mate, Aera. Aera told me the guest room was off limits and I could use the couch "to not get too comfortable" and that "the only bed I would get would be my own or Jimin's."
If I wasn't friends with them, I would've probably been more offended. You see, Lee Aera (no relation to Lee Haewon) was regarded as the queen of tough love. Kim Taehyung was their (Aera uses she/they pronouns) protégé and doting mate. They were mated and married, already planning on adopting children because as an assigned male at birth beta, she couldn't conceive.
Speaking of the couple of the hour, Taehyung grabbed the remote and turned off the television.
"Bro, what the fuck?!" I shouted, only to get dragged off the couch and into the guest bathroom, Taehyung pushing me into the shower and turning the water on.
My eyes widened at the frigid water and I stared at the beta, bewildered.
"You haven't showered once during the entire time you've been here and stink to high hell. Get showered and dressed. We gave you two days to grieve. The pity party is over. It's time to get your life on track. Aera and I are so graciously taking you somewhere. Afterwards, we expect you to go on your patient portal and set up another appointment with your psychiatrist. Also, you will have a card that is for the bus. It can only be used for the bus. It is not a debit or credit card, it is a bus card. I know you've never heard of them before, so congratulations on the new experience. You are in charge of your wellbeing, so it is your responsibility to get yourself back on track. We cannot have an alpha bumming on our couch when it's time for adoption interviews and having our house surveyed, so know that you are on a timer."
I blinked and absorbed his words. "That's a lot."
"The bus card is a gift. That's all we'll pay for. Food and other stuff is not covered. You'll need a job for that—oh, and you better pay Jimin back so he can get a car and help his eomma. See you later. You have five minutes to get ready."
Taehyung left me in a daze, but the door slamming knocked me out of it. I peeled off my clothes, using my tank top as a washcloth since there wasn't already one in here. I washed and dried myself thoroughly before finding a toothbrush.
Once I was dressed, Aera and Taehyung were standing at the door.
"It's about time. Let's go."
I noticed Aera was holding a gym bag.
"Wait—I'm not dressed for the gym."
"I know. I already packed your stuff."
"Fair enough." I followed them out to the car and placed the bus card Taehyung was holding back from his place in the passenger seat into my wallet.
