Twisted Disney #1 - Cinderella

As the doors to her room closed and she heard the sound of the lock, Cinderella's few strands of hope fizzled into oblivion. She knew it was only a matter of time before the prince and his ensemble showed at the door's of her home to try to see if the glass slipper would fit Anastasia or Drizella. Despite her knowledge, she was still surprised to see the prince knock on the door just below her.

She watched from her tower window as the door was opened by her stepmother. Lady Tremaine's eyes quickly flickered up to the tower as she closed the door for their visitors. When she saw Cinderella up above her, her classic, evil grin spread across her face. Cinderella's depression was all that managed to keep her company. She was consumed by the thoughts of her step sisters below her trying on her glass slipper. She just laid back on her bed, no useless tears coming to her eyes.

The prince stepped in through the thresh hold of the large home. The older woman, with her gray hair and dark colored dress, closed the door behind her as she greeted the prince and introduced herself as Lady Tremaine. She escorted the group to the sitting room of her home where two girls, one with a pink and purple dress and the other dressed in green and blue, bounced around with the same excitement that all of the girls he had met had.

"Good after noon, girls. I wish to try your foot in this slipper," the prince said as the girls bowed to him. The one in dressed in pink and purple, who called herself Anastasia, sat down in front of the prince and shoved her foot into his face. He slid the shoe onto her foot. It, being unsuccessful as usual, could hardly cover half of her foot. The prince watched in silence as the girl tried to shove her foot into the shoe, trying every possible angle she could.

"Oh! Me next!" the other girl, who claimed her name was Drizella, called. She pushed her sister out of the way and sat down in the chair. The prince tried to slide the glass slipper onto her foot with no success. Once again, the girl tried to wedge the shoe onto her foot, but turned out to be a failure.

"Lady Tremaine, we thank you for you time and service to the royal family," the prince said, disappointed as he usually was after entering the home of his country's inhabitants. She curtsied and pushed him and his group toward the door as nonchalantly as possible. As the prince walked out the door, he turned to the woman to ask one final question. "You are sure there are no other women who could have possibly be at the ball?" he questioned.

"I'm sorry, my prince, but Anastasia and Drizella are the only available women in our home," she said before closing the door on the disappointed prince who turned away to carry on down the road to the last few homes.

Cinderella rose from her position on the bed when she heard the downstairs door close again. She moved to her window to watch the prince walk down the steps, the disappoint on his face obvious to anyone who had eyes to watch. As he talked to his advisers, Cinderella began to feel desperate to be below her with the prince, whom she knew would be her only chance at true love.

And that was when Cinderella knew she had to be below on the ground. She figured that if she yelled down, the prince would come back to the door and demand access to Cinderella's tower, where he would bound up the steps to her and try her glass slipper on her foot. Where, after he found her, he would throw her up in the air and swing her around with glee and then set her down where they would share their first kiss of many.

As Cinderella opened her mouth to yell at the handsome man before her, she realized there was no guarantee of her rescue. She knew that was because of what she was: a servant girl. She was servant girl who earned her name by sleeping too close to a fire. She was an orphan. She was a girl who had gotten lucky one night when her fairy god mother gave her a dress. He would never believe it was her.

Then, the depression from these thoughts completely ate Cinderella alive and willed her to stand up on the window sill as her prince below climbed onto his horse. She did this not to get his attention, but because she felt the need to do what she was about to do. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before willing her left leg off the window sill and into the air in front of her. She then jumped off the window sill and began falling.

As Cinderella fell, she did not feel terror from the decision she had just made. She was not afraid of what would happen when she hit the ground. Nor did she feel upset about the prince or that this was the only way out of her misery. For some foreign reason, Cinderella felt a tad bit of happiness as the air rushed up around her. She would finally be with her parents. She spread her arms and laid her head back as she fell. In these last few seconds, she thought she knew what it was like to be a bird with their fragile wings and small bodies.

Then, she hit the ground just below the tower. The prince and his men were immediately off their horses, surrounding the body that was laying at awkward angles. The prince slid his hands under her neck. Her eyes were open slightly and he automatically recognized the crystal blue orbs. He knew this was his mystery girl. He quickly slid off her shoes and replaced it with the glass slipper. A perfect fit. He moved back up to her face where her eyes had slid closed.

A tear slid out of his eye and onto her cheek. This was his princess and he had not managed to get to her in time. He watched as all the life drained from her body and she was simply a corpse laying in his arms. As dark began to fall and he was urged to get up, he left a whisper of a kiss on her delicate lips and silently got onto his horse. Leaving her behind for the undertaker to find and carry to a grave.
