Chapter 5: Bastards

"I will rip your fucking arms off!"

"Y/n, you didn't need to threaten to kill them," Jude said, shaking her head at her fuming best friend.

"Yes, I did," Y/n seethed, pacing around her room in front of Jude, who was sitting on her bed. "I'm so fucking tired of royalty fucking up my friends and relationships."

Jude looked up; her brows creased in confusion. "What do you mean?"

Y/n cursed to herself. How could she be so careless with her words? How could she let her anger get the best of her like this? She sighed and collapsed on the wooden chair sitting in front of her desk and rubbed her face. "Don't worry about it. I shouldn't have said anything."

"No, what did you mean, Y/n?" Jude pressed.

"Don't worry about it, Jude," Y/n repeated, her tone reaching a dangerous calm. She didn't want to snap, especially at Jude... but, ohh, she was so damn close.

"Y/n..."

Jude's pushing only made her angrier. Y/n looked up at her friend, trying to keep her anger in check. Her jaw clenched as she stared menacingly at Jude. She tried to calm herself, not wanting to hurt her best friend. Y/n knew if Lorla was there, she'd be able to calm her down. But she was gone and that meant Y/n didn't know how to calm herself down. She turned to face the wall, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.

"I will rip your fucking arms off!" Y/n growled, holding a boy around her age up against a wall, her knife pressed against his neck. "I will cut off every one of your fingers and feed them to the nixies. You fucking BASTARD!"

"Please, I'm sorry," the boy begged. His body radiated fear, his eyes were widened and his muscles were tensed. "I'm sorry! I won't touch her again! I promise, I promise!"

"You don't deserve mercy for laying your hands on my girl," Y/n spat. The pure fury in her was enough to overpower the boy's fear three times over. "This is the second time. You didn't get the message the first time. There are no third chances."

"Y/n!" Lorla panted, out of breath from running. "Please, don't hurt him!"

Y/n's eyes softened slightly at the sound of her lover's voice. "But, love, he hurt you... again."

Noticing Y/n's attention drifting away, the boy started to wriggle out of her grasp. Y/n snapped her head right back, her grip on the boy tightening and her glare deepening.

"Yes, but, darling," Lorla pleaded, putting a gentle hand on Y/n's shoulder. "I'm okay. And hurting him back is only going to make you hurt in the future."

Y/n took a deep breath and slowly dropped the knife. "If you hurt her one more time, I will break you," she threatened, her voice was dangerously low.

"I won't. I won't, I promise." His tone was frantic—with no doubt she would kill him if he even glanced at Lorla again—and he ran away, refusing to look back.

Y/n turned around and immediately started fussing over her beautiful girl. Lifting her arms to check underneath them, touching her face and turning her head, just to be sure she wasn't hurt.

"Are you sure you're alright, lovely?" Y/n's voice was subdued, and her expression was concerned. She only got this way with Lorla, and Lorla absolutely adored it. "This is the second time."

Lorla chuckled and gently kissed Y/n's lips. "Of course, I'm okay. I have you here to protect me."

Y/n pulled Lorla in for a tender embrace. "I'll always protect you," she promised. "No one will ever hurt you again. Not while I'm here."
