"Did you find anything out of place?" Ryder and Chase were talking about Chase's search at Jake's out the front of the lookout

"Did you find anything out of place?" Ryder and Chase were talking about Chase's search at Jake's out the front of the lookout. "A lot of missing things. I remember Everest had a journal, I couldn't find that anywhere. And I also couldn't find her camera but maybe she got rid of it." I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank the lord. But I knew that what I did in the darkness will come to light, it was now just a matter of whether it was sooner or later.

Ryder led us to the top of the lookout, and everyone was there. It was getting late, so I was confused by this. I wondered if this was their way of telling me that I've been caught. I scanned my surroundings, and noticed Rocky lying on the floor. He looked worried about something, but I paid no attention to it as we were all worried, since we still had not found who had murdered Everest, which I assumed is why we were all here so late at night. "Sorry to keep you all up so late, but we need to have a discussion" Ryder had everyone's attention after he said that. "What about?" Rubble asked, stupidly. "Well, I guess I'll start by asking how everyone is feeling." Ryder said. He honestly sounded like a kindergarten teacher. Zuma decided that this was his time to speak up. "I think I speak for all of us when I say that we want to go to sleep." Ryder shook his head, he looked at me before speaking up again "I know, Zuma." he sighed. "But we have to do this. We need to talk about this. Somebody killed Everest. We need to look at all the possibilities about what happened. I never thought I'd be asking this question, but do any of you pups have anything to do or know anything at all about Everest's death?" I watched as everyone's eyes swept over each other in realization that it was someone in this room. No one said anything "I didn't find anything that could help us while I was at Jake's mountain." I lied. In the corner of my eye, I noticed Rocky's paw shaking before he mumbled something under his breath, I couldn't hear what it was, but Ryder mst have heard something. "Do you have something You'd like to share Rocky?" I stared at him I must've made him uncomfortable as he hesitated for a minute, but right as he was about to speak Skye butted in. "Rocky if you're going to say something say it!" She wasn't happy about it probably because she just wanted to hurry it along so she could sleep our pups certainly wore her down more each day. "OKAY, OKAY,  jeez Skye calm down." He rebutted, but he still hesitated for about ten seconds before finally saying what he wanted to say

"What if it was Chase?"

I heard a shared gasp. "I can't blame you for thinking that," I said, calmly. "But why would you say that? What makes you think I'm a bigger suspect than everyone else in this room?" I knew Rocky well and he was a good friend of mine, which is probably why he saw right through me. "What makes you say that?" Ryder pitched in when Rocky didn't answer me. "Well, think about it," he paused glancing over at me, noticing my faint smile. He continued anyway. "Chase would know how to hide murder evidence better than anyone, especially using poisons. He is a detective after all. He knows the ins and outs of the business, so he would know how to come up with a coverup for something like this." I was shocked, but I knew he had a point. "I would never do something like that." I tried my best to keep my voice down. Rocky jumped right back on the attack. "But you have! You've snuck away from us to commit murder before, how do we know you haven't done it again?" I needed a coverup and fast. The other pups were just staring. "And how do we know that you didn't do it, huh? You hated Everest, your were inside while we were out, you could've easily slipped the poison into the cake." I was happy with what I came up with, I was safe for now, but Rocky was on to me. "Um, I was with Rocky the entire time, he didn't do anything." Rubble finally spoke up. I remembered he had stayed inside to eat the snacks, and he was with Rocky. "Your face was buried in the food, you wouldn't have seen anything." Skye retorted. Rocky glared at Skye, and turned back to me. "You bought the cake, you had all freaking day to tamper with it! And plus, the poison was only in one slice of the cake, when the car crash outside happened, you could've switched whatever plates around to make sure Everest got the bad one!"

I was speechless, he was completely right, I was going to be the main suspect in the investigation. Which was exactly what I wanted. I thought back to the car crash, and I knew for sure that it was staged as a distraction. Rocky smiled sinisterly. "So it was you." I felt all the eyes burning through me. "I did nothing to Everest," I said, quietly. "But until I can prove it, I need you to believe me. Just give me some time." I was probably about to get another earful, when the screen usually used when Ryder was giving us our jobs, lit up. Instead of our logos, the screen was white with black letters dotting the screen, it was a message.

I got the idea for killing Everest while watching Forensic Files.

I'd been thinking about it for a while, obviously. That's not the kind of thing you pluck out of mid air. But how I would get away with it always stopped me, I don't kid myself that I'm a criminal mastermind. But it was easy. Everyone hated Everest. She was the type of person that knew everything about you, even secrets you lock away under your guilty smiles. After reading her journal, I realized she had stored some pretty dirty secrets, some I will be relaying to you throughout the next few days. Remember, I wasn't the only one who wanted her to die, but I was the only one with the guts to do something about it.

You're welcome.

After that, the room erupted into argument, forgers were pointed, and everyone, who was previously tired, had been set into a craze. But I kept my eyes locked onto the screen. Whoever wrote that message was making this a lot harder for me.
