Chapter 51

Lisa was looking at Jennie while she slept in their bed. Two weeks after leaving the hospital she was still shaken. She usually woke in the middle of night sweating and trembling, screaming, and could sleep only during the day.

They had found the letters in her drawer and she still couldn't understand why she kept everything hidden. She could have died. The letters were horrible. Some of them had only "SHE IS MINE", but some had "LEAVE HER" or "SHE BELONG TO ME" or "SHE HAS A MISTRESS". She felt her anger boiling towards her attacker and towards her because she could have died and nobody would know about those letters.

Lisa talked to Mino and Wesley, who were helping the police with the investigation and their security. They found human hair in the box and inside one of the letters. They run a DNA test and discover the hairs were of the same person, a female. They would compare the DNA fingerprinting with samples of women around without they knew it. It hurt her to think someone who knew them, knew Jennie, would do something so appalling, but Mino and Wesley were right. Nobody could be trusted. She knew, however, who she was. Zendaya. He was sure it was she and she just disappeared.

"Lisa."

"Hey."

"Come here."

"No. Jennie. You have to rest. I will go to my mother's house. I will take the cell phone and Dwayne is outside. I'll be back as soon as possible."

"Lisa."

Lisa did not want to talk to her while she was still so weak. 'Maybe Mom could help to sort everything out.' Lisa drove to her parent's house and found her mother taking care of the garden.

"Hey, Sweetie."

"Hi. Mom."

"Am I seeing a Claddagh?"

"Yes. We are engaged."

"But..."

"How do you always know when there is a 'but'?"

"I am your mother."

Lisa told her mother a short version of everything that had happened since She rested her eyes on Jennie for the first time waiting for her diagnostic.

"I think you are in panic, Lisa. You are afraid that this person could have hurt Jennie and you wouldn't know. You love her, don't you? So, talk to her. Besides, her life story is scary. How many people would believe it? She must be afraid and ashamed. You are also being an ass!"

"Mom!"

"No mom me! Put yourself in her place. She suffered a lot in her life, Lisa. You cannot just ask her to trust you or anyone suddenly. You are in her life now, but before you there was almost nobody there for her. Behaving angrily won't solve the problem. Have you thought that behaving like this can be as scary as everything she went through already?"
