I neatly folded up the letter and stuck it in an envelope that was sitting on my desk. I quickly flung my door open and rushed down the stairs to the main floor as Cedric was making himself some lunch.
"Hey sis! What's up?" Ced asked as he put mustard on his sandwich.
"Not much. I need the owl to send someone a letter," I smiled looking at the empty owl perch confused.
"I have no idea," he guessed what I was going to say just as our barn owl, Hibou, swooped in the kitchen window. Hibou is French for Owl. I know it's not much but we love the name.
"Never mind. Found him," I smiled as I took the letter out of his beak. It was addressed to me...Who would send me a letter?
"Who is it for?" Cedric asked, peering over my shoulder.
"Me. I don't know who its from though," I looked confused as I opened the letter. The writing was in fancy cursive that I recognize to be Lily's writing. I miss her, sure, but what does she want? It read:
Little Diggory!! Yes I'm talking to you Ella. How have you been bestie? I know I haven't been around much, it's because of your mum, she's kinda rude to me. I'm sorry that I'm saying things against her but you have to agree!! I see how you talk about her, like she isn't your actual mum. I was just about to ask, Little Diggory, if we could hang out sometime? I haven't seen you in a month!! Could you imagine, going from inseparable to not seeing each other for over a month!!! I miss you a ton!! Please Owl me back. Love you girl!!
=Lily (Flower) Smantha Grace Evans=
P.S. I have more than two middle names but I'm running out of ink in this pen..
"Yay!! Lily isn't mad at me!!" I jumped up and down. Cedric frowned as he took the letter out of my hands to see why I was so happy. His expression quickly changed once he saw what Lily said in the letter. After he read through it all he put the letter on the counter and continued to tend to his sandwich.
"Merlin, Ella, calm down?" he sighed but it came out as a question.
"Ha! Never!!" I kept jumping up and down as I gave Hibou the letter to Atlas. Now to either go over to my best friend's house or write her a letter. Maybe I should write a letter so I can get used to the owl system. No, I should talk to her face-to-face. That's how I should do it... Well but owl seems really tempting...No, I'll go over to her. I can do it right now.
"I'm going over to Lily's house. I need to talk to her," I tell Cedric as I slip my sandals on. I flung the front door open and rushed down the front steps. I quickly made my way around the corner to her house.
I ran fast. Faster than I ran during physical class at school. This was something I wanted to do, it wasn't forced. I got there in under 3 minutes. Her house was a two story house with a bright yellow door, blue siding and red garage door. I could see the fake shudders on her bedroom window were glowing a light gray.
I walked up the stairs of her front porch to the door. I reached forward and knocked three times on the door. One-two-THREE. The last one was a bit louder. I heard movement on the other side of the door.
Lily's little sister opened the door. "Hi Ella! What can I do for you?!" she asked in a happy little voice. Sunny was one year younger than Lily and I.
"Hi Sunny! Is your sister around? I kinda need to talk to her," I smiled looking inside the beautiful house.
"Hang on..Let me go get her...LILY!!! ELLA IS HERE TO SEE YOU!!!" Sunny yelled up the stairs.
"Sunny Jane Evans! Don't yell in my house," Mrs. Evans scolded her daughter from somewhere else in the house. Just then, Lily came bounding down the stairs.
"Hello Little Diggory!" Lily beamed as she embraced me.
"Hi Flower..Can we talk?" I asked awkwardly, hugging her back. She nodded as she led me down the steps to a bench that sat in the middle of her mum's flower garden.
"So...What did you want to talk about?" she asked.
"I just wanted to say, I totally understand how you feel about my Mother. I feel the same way about her most of the time. I just hope we don't grow apart at Hogwarts," I smiled
"Oh thank goodness! I was scared that we would grow apart because of what your mum said! I'm glad that nothing changed between us!" Lily also smiled as she fidgeted with something in her pocket.
"What's in your pocket, Flower?" I was super curious at this point.
"Oh right! Here!" She pulled out a bracelet that had pink and very light purple beads. I took a closer look at it and saw that it had a Lily carm on it. I raised my brows.
"I have one too! It's one with a rose charm though. So when we miss eachother and can't see echother, we can look at it. It's a friendship bracelet!" She exclaimed as she put it on my wrist. She rolled up her sleeves to reveal the bracelet she was talking about.
"I'm guessing because your favorite flower is a Lily and mine is a rose?" I asked her, turning the bracelet around.
"No silly! Its because my name is Lily and your middle name is Rosemarry, or shortened to Rose!" Lily shook her head.
"That makes sense," I giggled. She leaned her head on my shoulder. My best friend, ladies and gentlemen. Lily Samantha Elysea Grace Cassidy Evans. Her perfect red hair complemented her shining green glasses. Her lovely green-blue eyes.
"Little Diggory?" she asked in a whisper.
"Yes Flower?"
"You're my best friend ok? Nothing's gonna change it."
"Yes, Flower," I slowly nodded my head.
"Ella? Your mother rang on the phone. She says she wants you back at the house," Sunny broke the silence when she called out from the front door.
"Ok. Thank you Sun! See you later Lily," I waved as I started walking down the street back to my house.
As my feet hit the front steps of my house, the door flung open to reveal one Cedric Diggory who seemed like he was in a hurry.
"Where are you going?" I asked as he rushed down the steps.
"I'm meeting Belle for tea. Father is driving me," he nodded at me as he stood by our muggle car. My feet were still on the steps.
Tea? With Belle? Must be a date.
"See you later Ella. I'm taking Cedric to a tea shop," father came out in the same manner my brother did.
"I-Bye," I shook my head as I opened the door to the house. Those two have everything in common.
"Ella. Hi dear," Mother said from the kitchen. Her same monotone voice when she was around me. Typical.
"Hey Mother," I smiled at her.
"I'm going to my office. So you know where I'll be if you need me," she said as she acended the stairs. So it was just me. Well me and Hibio. I took this opportunity to give him the letter for Atlas.
"Can you take this to Atlas Slouth, Hibio?" I asked the owl as I put the letter in his beak. He didn't answer me. That would be weird if he could talk back. I walked over to the window to open it. Right as I did, he swooped out and flapped off to the destination.
