Both of us raced into the meadow.
As expected, Dale’s the one to reach it first.
When we got there, we were both panting for air.
We sat on the ground laughing in bliss.
When we stopped, I started to hum a song under my breath.
Dale stood up and went in front of me. I looked at him curiously but never stopped humming.
“Would you care to dance with me, young lady?” he asked, bowing down to me and offering me his hand.
I laughed at him but still took his hand nonetheless.
And then I started to sing a lullaby that I am very fond of.
It’s called “Dream a little dream of me”
I once heard of it on one of my mother’s phonograph. And then it never left my mind. The words came stuck to my head and it stayed there up until now.
“Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper, I love you
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me”
We swayed side by side and twirled around.
I was about to sing the second verse, but then Dale beat me to it.
“Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me”
I’m a little curious why he knows the song too…
I’m guessing maybe he heard it from somewhere. The song’s quite popular anyway.
When the song had come into its ending, the both of us were singing loudly.
“Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me”
We both looked into each other’s eyes and smiled.
“Yes, dream a little dream of me...” We sung the last part softly.
