Chapter 19

Liam was already four days on the hospital. I didn't visit him yesterday but I hope he's entirely fine.

When I got there, Harry and the other boys were all talking and they all looks good and just like that, maybe feels good too…

“I’m really grateful that it didn’t happen again. If you only saw Liam boy…” Harry stated. Maybe nobody felt my presence. I could only saw Harry’s back, Niall was playing a song with his guitar.

“I know he will be fine… He’s a n awesome man. He even escaped cancer, didn’t he?”

“Cancer?” My voice was soft but I know they could hear me.

Harry and Lou were the first who turned to me then it was Niall who stopped strumming his guitar.

“Kaye…” Harry and Lou both said. Didn’t ecpected me, I suppose.

“So Liam has a cancer? W-wait, can you please… Oh my GOD.” I just looked down because I don’t know what more to say.

Harry approached me, “Kaye… we are supposed to--”

“When did this happened, Harry?” I’m trying to keep calm. I want to know everything. I feel like an outcast, a person beneath rocks. See? I don’t even know that ONE DIRECTION is existing!

“This is not the right time for this…”

“Then, when? Harry please…”

Harry’s shoulders were down. My voice was almost pleading. He took a deep breah before meeting my sight.

“Ok…” he said and turned to the boys.

The other boys left us and I was there facing Harry who seems uncertain.

“Npw what…” I began to broke that certain silence between us.

“Remember those days before your birthday?” Harry started, not staring at me.

“Yep…” Those days were the days that Liam and I were like strangers. Been ignoring each other…

“He dared to talk to you as early as possible, Kaye. But later, he just let you think that he and Sassy has a “relationship..””

“so what’s the connection of it?”

“He was diagnosed with nephritis. That was during his medical test for the school’s basketball team…”

“That’s why he stopped playing…”

“Right. And guess what? We knew these things just last year. He never told me anything but after our X-Factor audition, that was when I knew it and it was already a stage 1 cancer…”

I put my palm on my mouth. Why on earth, Liam?

“He didn’t tell you? But why…”

“I dunno… He’s got one kidney, left.. Was operated last year and was fine now, I thought. But it was the day when you said you’re going to the grocery. I was so afraid, so afraid that maybe he was not yet well…”

I looked at Harry and raised his chin. I saw a droplet of tear on his cheek. I reached my hand to his cheek and wiped it.

“For one whole year, he was fighting all alone. He don’t want anybody to know, neither you… especially you…”

“Why? I don’t understand… he needs us during those times… he needs me…”

“Liam has it’s reasons. It’s up to you if you want to know. I don’t have the liberty to say anything…”
