Gwen made Fallon stay home from school for the whole week. She didn’t go back to school until the twenty-first of March, which was almost a month after she fell. The familiar sight of the unchanged scenery seemed strange to her. After almost a month, she would’ve thought things would look different, but it was like she never left.
Outside of her first period class, Lucian drew her into his arms. “Be sure to control your emotions when you see Wendy.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be good. I’m not going to do anything to mess up our plans.”
Already they’d decided on a course of action for payback of the attack on her, but it required time. They wanted Christian and his groupies to think they’d succeeded in scaring them. Just about the time they got comfortable with that idea, Fallon and Lucian would strike. Then they’d know who was in charge, and they’d be sorry. The thought brought a smile to her face as it always did. She let that be the feeling that followed her into the classroom where she spotted Wendy already in her seat. When Wendy didn’t change expressions, Fallon bit back disappointment. She’d been hoping just the sight of her would drive Wendy over the edge, or at the very least scare her a little.
“She’ll be plenty scared when the time comes,” Griffin said as he dropped down beside her.
“And I can’t wait for that time,” Fallon admitted.
The bell rang, and Mrs. Laird assumed her spot in the front and center of the room. “Welcome back, Fallon. How are you feeling?”
“I feel great,” Fallon said and then focused her gaze on Wendy. “I’m stronger than I’ve ever been in my life.”
Though Wendy held her gaze, she chewed on the corner of her lip. That only made Fallon smile wider. Just because she wasn’t going to do anything yet didn’t mean she couldn’t mess with the girl a little. Besides, it might look more suspicious if she didn’t.
At lunch time, all of her girlfriends squealed and rushed to greet her. Their hugs almost knocked Fallon off her feet.
“You look so great,” Daphne said.
“Thanks,” Fallon said as she and Lucian squeezed into their regular spot.
“I think you lost weight too,” Blair said, and Lucian glared at her.
Fallon shrugged. “I hope not. I don’t want to lose my ass and end up looking like a stick figure.”
While everyone cracked up, Fallon cut her eyes toward Lucian and saw him smiling.
“So, Fallon, what was it like to be in a coma?” Corina asked.
“It was weird. It was like I closed my eyes for a second, but then I find out I’ve actually been out like almost two weeks.”
“We tried to come see you at the hospital, but your mom said the doctors wouldn’t let you have a lot of visitors,” Ava informed her.
“Thanks for trying.”
“Do you remember anything from your coma?” Corina asked. “Like did you have any out of body experiences or anything?”
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” Lucian announced.
“Nobody’s talking to you,” Daphne pointed out.
