We are all searching for someone whose demons play well with ours. -Unknown
Ellis
"I'm a senior up at Denver University. How about you?"
"I'm a senior in high school actually." I respond and Logan laughs.
"Wow. High school, huh? I hated high school."
"Yeah, it is pretty much the worst." I try to laugh too, but I just start coughing.
This is so uncomfortable. My plan was to just sit in a corner and now I am being chatted up by a college boy. I should be flattered. I suppose. Logan is handsome and funny, but I am too much of a basket case to actually enjoy male attention.
"Are you not thirsty anymore?" He asks, nodding to the water bottle in my hand.
"Oh yeah, thanks again. The tap is older than this country." I twist the cap off of the water bottle, making sure to hear the pop.
As I am about to press it to my lips it it lifted from my hands.
"Not again Logan."
Harry
Logan.
There is no way in hell this is happening again.
I turn around and look over the sea of people to spot Jax Hart, Ellis' foster brother.
I walk over to him as he is talking with the hosts of the party. I don't think I have ever talked to Jax and I have been at the same parties as him for almost two years. But this is to important for a formal introduction.
"Jax," I say and he turns around, obviously confused at why I am talking to him.
"What do you want Harry?" He asks harshly.
"Your sister is talking to Logan Reef." Is all I had to say and we are on our way to the kitchen.
"I told Luke about him but I guess he didn't relay that to Matt." He says as we turn the corner.
We see Logan leaning on the counter and laughing. Jax runs right to Ellis and grabs the water bottle out of her small hands. I pull Logan away from Ellis and drag him out the back door.
"Not again Logan."
"Oh come on man. I didn't do anything wrong"
"You assaulted innocent girls."
"None of them said no, Styles."
"You drugged them you bastard, get the hell out of here." I say and slam the door behind me.
"Are you okay Lissa?" Jax asks and she nods.
"What the heck was that?" She looks up at me, realization and confusion both hitting her.
"Logan Reef. He's a scumbag, he put drugs in that water bottle and glued the top on so it seemed new. The drugs make you pass out and then he . . . well you can guess the rest." I explain as gently as I can manage and Ellis looks like she might vomit.
"I shouldn't have brought you here. I swear I didn't think he would be here tonight."
"I want to go home." Is all she says, in a voice only above a whisper.
"Okay we'll go home." Jax says but his glassy eyes and slight stumble make his intoxication clear, I can't let him drive home.
"You're drunk, Hart. I'll take her home." I say and he protests immediately.
"She can drive us home in my car. Stay out of this Styles."
"She doesn't seem to be in the best state of mind to be operating a car. I can take her home."
Before he says anything else, Ellis speaks up.
"I'll text you as soon as I get home Jax, I promise." She says and hugs him goodbye. As she does so he glares at me, a silent warning not to do anything stupid.
"Don't do anything stupid." Maybe it wasn't so silent of a threat.
"Got it." I say and slug my jacket back on. Ellis heads to the front door and I follow her through the crowd out into the cool night air.
"Where's your car?" She asks.
"Right here." I can't help but smirk a little as I point to my bike, but she isn't phased. The "posh" girls my parents force me to associate with are too above motorcycles. Ellis is reckless enough to hop on.
Just as I turn back to hand her my extra helmet I see a small, shaking pile of person on the grass.
Shit. I can either put her on the bike and drop her off at her doorstep; or I could try to help her. I don't know how to help people but I also don't know her address.
"Ellis? Are you okay?" That's a stupid question, obviously she's not okay. I reach down and help her stand up, she puts on the helmet with trembling hands and whispers an apology. Tough girl.
"Hold on tight." I say and start for the only place in the world that calms me down, maybe it can help her.
The drive from the house mostly consists of Ellis shaking whilst clinging to my back with a white knuckle grip. It's only about fifteen minutes until I turn into the grass of the outlook. The only part of this stupid city that I like.
"Where are we?" She asks as I turn my bike off.
"It's kind of my safe haven. When things are bad, I come here to clear my mind." I scratch the back of my head. It probably looks really bad that I brought her up to a secluded place alone, especially considering what just happened.
"Thank you." Ellis looks up into my eyes and almost smiles, but then quickly sits on the grass.
A/N
This is not edited yet but will be tomorrow. Okay so I guess I should give you an explanation as to why I was gone for so long but I'll keep it short.
I got Epstein Barr virus and then mono at the end of last school year and it totally took out my immune system and now I have a really strange auto immune thing that is effecting my lungs. Anyway, it sucks but writing makes me feel better!
Xoxoxo,
