"Ah, hello, Ashen One. My name is Ursula." She stated calmly, giving me a polite wave.
"Greetings, Ursula. I presume you're the one Miranda had sent to check on me?"
She gave me a nod, still smiling lightly. "You'd be correct! I admit I was surprised that she chose me, but I don't mind."
"Well, don't be a stranger then. Please, sit." I gesture to the chair across from me, to which she hurriedly sits down on. She took notice of the small stacks of books that surrounded me.
"I see you've been reading up while in here. Are you enjoying yourself?" Being unable to find what I was looking for within these texts isn't exactly an enjoyable feeling. But I knew I shouldn't dampen her mood with my groveling thoughts. So, I nodded.
"Tis rather fascinating, this realm. Many creatures unfamiliar to me, along with these new spells. Very different compared to the lands I hail from." I replied.
She rose a curled finger to her lips, pondering as she looked at me curiously. "So, you really are a stranger to the magical realm?"
Seems my tongue had slipped. Then again, in the event my stay here at Luna Nova is much longer than I predicted, it'd only be a matter of time until I'd have to reveal more of myself to other people. At the very least, to the staff.
"In the interest of not taking up your time, plain and simple, yes. These are foreign lands for me, and I've been trying to dig up anything that was familiar to my own. To no avail."
"Well, I'm sure you'll find something soon. There's a large wealth of knowledge within this library, after all!" She replied optimistically, picking up a random book and looking over it. "It's certainly helped me when I was a student here years ago. Whether it was to learn spells or studying for tests, this place is just the perfect friend for any student."
I hummed quietly, leaning forward slightly. She took notice, and with an embarrassed expression, she clears her throat and places the book down.
"Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to start reminiscing on the past on you like that. You probably think it's silly..." A hand rubbed the back of her head sheepishly as she looked away from me. I simply shook my head lightly.
"Not at all, Ursula. To remember the past fondly is nothing to be ashamed of. Especially when it resonates joy within oneself." I paused, thinking of my own 'past'. Being deemed unworthy to link the flame when I was truly alive and burnt to cinders as a result of touching the First Flame?
Truly not a past that elicits any positive feelings.
"Erm, Ashen One?" I heard Ursula's voice, snapping me out of my thoughts as I looked at her. With the moonlight no longer directly in her glasses, I could finally see her eyes. They were as red as rubies, with just a dot of white that brought out their brilliance.
Her eyes, needless to say, were beautiful.
"Mmh, sorry. I was caught up in my thoughts. To conclude what I was saying earlier, feel no shame for enjoying memories of old days."
This seemed to help elevate her mood, for her smile returned. "Thank you. It's actually nice to feel validated instead of judged."
"Judged?"
"Well, judged is perhaps a strong word. It's more so the other teachers don't really pay any mind to what I have to say. I am the youngest of the faculty here, after all."
She dipped her head down as she spoke, her fingers twiddling together just above her lap.
"I see. I can't say I've been in a familiar position as you, but perhaps in time they'll come to value your perspective."
