After traversing the mess of hallways for some time, I could see an opening ahead of me illuminated by blue light. I came to a stop once I reached it, and was glad I didn't decide to sprint through as what greeted me was a large chasm. Lining the walls both around me and across were large tree roots that ran all the way down, along with a bridge made up of roots at the center of it all.
But more importantly, I could see Diana entrapped at the center of the bridge, tied up in ropes with Patches looming over her with his spear pointed at her head. He was in his more recognizable attire, worn out leather adorned with an iron pauldron on his left shoulder. Even from here, I could hear his cackling audibly.
There was no way for me to just leap from here, too far way. I had to find another way. Backtracking a bit, I found another hallway and made my way through it hurriedly. Eventually, I came upon an opening in the floor and peeked my head over it. I could see a loose strand of roots peeling away from the wall, forming a sliding platform.
I could also hear a commotion going on, like a fight had broken out. Expecting the worst, I took the plunge and landed on the root before rolling off and landing on the stone ground. I groan as I stood back up, my eyes shooting directly towards the direction of the fight.
I saw as Patches was knocked back onto the stone floor I was on, by none other than Akko donning the appearance of a turtle. Her gaze quickly shifted to me as she shouted in surprise. "Ashen One! You're alright!"
"What?!" Patches blurted aloud, looking over at me as he growled in frustration. "How did you manage to escape?! Ack, no matter! Can't let ya spoil the fun!" He quickly lunges at me, his spear about to strike me in the chest until Akko barreled her way towards us and took the stab for me.
"Akko!" I shouted aloud, seeing her land on the floor weakly as the lance was embedded in her shell. With Patches disarmed, I rushed him and slammed him onto the ground, struggling with him as he repeatedly punched me.
"C'mon now! I ain't going down to the likes of you, friend!" Patches then kicked me off with a strong push of his leg, towering over me as he was about to slam his shield down on me. Just when it seemed like I was done for, a blast of magic strikes him in the back and knocks him out cold, falling to the ground.
I glance over to see Diana standing up, her wand fizzling with green magic before she rushed over to us. "Ashen One! Are you alright?"
"Aye, I am, Diana. But Akko..." Our gazes turn over towards the injured girl, who was currently out cold. I could hear a gasp escape Diana as she rushed over to her, inspecting the spear embedded in her.
"We need to get her medical attention, quickly!" She said, to which I nodded. I then look over at the unconscious Patches, my fists tightening. Were it not for the fact that I still needed him alive, I would have just ended his life right then and there for inflicting harm upon Akko.
"Where do we need to go?" I asked.
"The medical ward." Diana replied.

After arriving to the medical ward, Diana was hard at work at healing Akko, who at this point reverted back to her normal self. Thankfully, that shell of hers negated most of the damage, but Diana still had to ensure the stab mark left behind wouldn't worsen.
As for Patches, I made sure he was tied up before he had the chance to wake up. Once Diana was finished healing Akko, she let out a sigh of relief. "Alright, she's stable now."
"Good to hear." I replied, taking a moment to examine the large ward we were in. Towering bookshelves filled with books and other medical equipment rested at the center of the room, with several beds worn with age lining the room in a circle.
