Megan's POV
As I'm snuggling with Milo on the couch I hear my phone ring, it's Sue. "Hey babe," I greet. "How's Charlie? Is she gonna be okay?"

"She's gonna be fine, physically at least," she states quietly. "Docs said she partially tore her rotator cuff, bullet almost punctured her lung, and a very bad broken leg. They also strongly recommended getting her a therapist. I can fill you in with more details later, babe."

"Jesus, can I talk to her?"

"Yeah," she says.

I hear shuffling on the other end of the phone line before I finally hear my daughter's voice. "Hey mama," she says.

"Hey sweets," I reply with a relieved smile firmly on my face, "how're you feeling?"

"I've been better. Mom gives pretty good cuddles," she replies. "I miss you mama. And Milo too."

I chuckle at her. "We miss you too Charlie. So how long are you in the hospital for?"

"A couple days, just for observation," Charlie responds. "Is Milo okay?"

"Yes honey, he's okay. You wanna talk to him?"

"Yeah."

"Okay, let me hand the phone to him," I say. I go to hand the phone to him only to realize that he's sound asleep. "Actually, he's sound asleep so I'll have him call you when he wakes up, is that okay?"

"Yeah that's fine mama. How're you doing?"

"I'm- I'm okay. I was super scared when I saw the news but I feel much better now I know that both of my kids are safe," I reveal.

"I was scared too, mama. I thought I was never gonna see y'all again," she sniffles. "I thought he was gonna kill me; god, I don't think I'm ever gonna forget that bastard's face."

"Sweets, I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"You can't change the past, but you can let go and start the future."

"When did my baby get to be so wise?" I ask, wiping a few tears. "So you have a whole lot of PT ahead of you, yeah?"

"So much. I have a wheelchair until I'm out of this stupid sling and can use crutches; it'll be a few weeks."

"So you're gonna be on the couch for a bit probably. Unless someone feels like carrying you up and down the stairs."

"Ughh, don't remind me! And it's not like I can even move in the wheelchair on my own because of my rotator cuff," she groans.

"I think you're gonna make it through this alive, baby," I chuckle. I hear her yawn dramatically through the phone. "Why don't I let you get some sleep, honey?"

"Okay mama, I love you," she tiredly mumbles.

"I love you too Charlie."
