"Y/n!" A voice called out to you, though since your ears were still partially submerged in the water, it sounded muffled. You opened your eyes, blinking as the fog that previously clouded your mind began to dissipate.
You were still floating in the river, and above, the sky told you it seemed to be late afternoon now, almost evening. You raised your head up now, glancing around to see a familiar girl with green hair standing over by the shore.
Collei waved at you happily, giggling at how disoriented you still looked now that you'd just woken up from your accidental now.
"Oh, hey!" You called, yawning as you let yourself stop floating and stand up now, the water still waist deep. "I didn't realize you guys were back yet."
"We just finished patrol." She replied as you waded back to shore, still feeling a little groggy from sleep. Even though the overwhelming feeling of dread and fear was still present, it had helped to be able to relax for a while. You felt a little less hopeless, which was a start. "Have you been out here this entire time?" Collei asked, reaching into her bag for something.
"I guess so." You admitted sheepishly, now fully exiting the water, "I may have fallen asleep..."
"Well, you probably did need the rest," she said, pulling out a towel now as you wrung out parts of your wet clothes. She handed it to you, which you happily took, drying off your hair and face before working your way down to the rest of your drenched body. "You dry off, and then we can get something to eat." She decided, "That was my last patrol for today, so I have plenty of time to spend with you now!"
You smiled, nodding at how eager she seemed about the idea of getting more time with you.
"You've been down here all day, haven't you?" Tighnari's voice asked as he started approaching the two of you now, a disappointed look on his face. "Y/n, you need to take better care of yourself! I warned you about getting sunburnt."
"I know..." You sighed, finishing toweling off now as you wrung out your h/c hair again. "I just wanted to cool off for a while. I must have lost track of time and fallen asleep though." To that, he sighed, deciding to hold back on scolding you any more right now.
"Well, at least you got some rest." Then he glanced at the file that still sat on the riverbank, a frown covering his face. "Were those records at all helpful?"
"Only for showing more about his personal life," you said with a shrug as you handed the towel bag to Collei, who folded it up to dry later. "I really appreciate you finding them for me, though!" He nodded, but the frown still didn't go away.
"I just wish I could have been more help..."
"You already have been, Tighnari." You assured him with a smile as you grabbed the last of your things that had been sitting in the grass; mainly the water bucket. "I really do appreciate everything you've both done for me." His eyes softened as they met your own, and you noticed Collei turn slightly pink from where she stood beside you.
"It's nothing, really!" The green haired girl piped up. "But anyway, how about we go get some food? You're probably starving by now!"
You nodded, and she went ahead, motioning for the both of you to follow, which you did. Tighnari walked alongside you, paying close attention to your facial expressions as you happily watched your friend run ahead.
"She's been a lot happier ever since you've been staying with us." He spoke up finally, glancing ahead at his trainee fondly.
Not that you knew her story, you felt your heart melt a little at that.
"I'm glad. It's been really nice staying here with you guys, so I'm happy too." You replied with a genuine grin. "Even though I thought Cyno was just trying to get rid of me when he first sent me here..."
