He Loves Bunnies

A few weeks later, Jungkook becomes increasingly accustomed to his unique abilities and loves being alive.

He is taking another run to the park when he decides to take a different route. There's a back road he has always been interested in.

He runs down the tree-lined road when a car comes barreling around a curve. Out of nowhere, a happy, floppy-eared dog runs across, chasing a rabbit.

Before Jungkook could stop the car, it had hit the dog and sent it flying, only to land in a ditch. The driver never bothered to stop but sped on down the road.

Jungkook reaches the dog, who is whimpering and crying in pain. He snaps at Jungkook as he tries to get close.

"Come on, boy. It's okay. Who do you belong to? Do you have a tag?"

Jungkook begins speaking softly to the dog, mesmerizing it. The dog calms down but still whimpers.

Jungkook pets him and searches him for injuries. The dog lays there, letting Jungkook feel his body. Several bones are broken, mainly the back, hips, and lower spine.

He rubs the dog behind the ears. "You're a good boy."

He notices that despite the whimpering in pain, his tail faintly wags. "Good, your spinal cord isn't injured."

Jungkook hears a car approaching, and they stop. "What's happened? Are you okay?"

Jungkook says, "I'm fine, but do you know whose dog this is? He's been hit by a car."

The driver gets out and looks at the dog. "He's a stray," he says, softly petting it.

"He has been hanging around for a while now. He is very friendly. Several of us along this road put out food and water for him. We think someone dropped him off some time back. Poor thing, with his legs and the way they look, I don't think he is going to make it."

Jungkook looked down at the dog, who had become very quiet, but occasionally, his undocked tail would do a little wag whenever Jungkook looked at him.

The driver says, "I'm so sorry this happened to him. I bet he was chasing a bunny. He loves bunnies. He never hurts them; he plays with them. He loves hanging around with my son's pet bunny in our backyard. My son will be so sad when I tell him this."

The man sighs, "The closest emergency vet is closed today. The vet had a family emergency and is out of town. I hate to go, but I have to get my daughter to daycare."

He returns to his car, checking his watch before looking back at Jungkook. "This is so sad. I wish I could do more."

Jungkook says, "I appreciate you stopping and letting me know."

The driver hurries to his car trunk, gets a blanket out, and brings it to him before he drives away, giving a sad wave.

Jungkook kneels by the dog, who has just enough strength to lift his head and place it on Jungkook's knee.

Jungkook looks around and doesn't see anyone or any cars. He closes his eyes, shutting everything else out, and listens. The heart he hears is that of the dog, which sounds irregular. Sensing everything is clear, Jungkook makes a small cut on his wrist.

"Here, boy, you need this. It will make you better."

At first, the dog doesn't move; it looks forlornly up at him. "Please? How about you stick your tongue out, ok?"

He sits back, surprised that the dog did just that. The dog weakly licks Jungkook's wrist. "That's a good boy. You're so good."

Jungkook is not sure how much to let him have as he is much bigger than Chimmin, the cat. When the dog's licking is stronger, and his tail is wagging, he pulls his wrist away. His wrists immediately heal, with no sign of ever being cut.

"Let's get away from the road." He gently picks up the dog and finds a nice place by a tree to lay him down. He lays down beside the dog and pulls the blanket over him.

Stroking his side, Jungkook asks, "Do you want to come home with me? I've always wanted a dog."

He could have sworn the dog nodded. He shakes his head, "That's weird."
