♡The Lost Piece♡

When 30 y/o Gojo goes back in time and meets his 17 y/o self

Written for gojohime daily prompt, "It Has To Be Me"

"Stop staring at Utahime, can you?"

"Oh, my bad. It's just that- she looks like someone I used to know"

"Someone you used to know? Are you saying you don't know that person now?"

"Well.. kinda. She's not with me anymore. I lost her"

"How did you lose her? You said you are the strongest"

"My fault", a shrug

"Are you dumb?", the young Gojo mocks. "How can you not know someone after knowing them? Just because she is not with you, it doesn't mean you no longer know her. There are certain people who can't be replaced, that we are willing to live in pain just to keep the void only for them"

"Look who's talking", the older Gojo chuckles. "Is she one of the certain people to you? Someone you can never replace?", he nudges towards Utahime

"I think so. I kinda.. like her, you know"

"Of course I know, dude. I used to be you"

"Have you been in love with her too all this time?"

The older nods. "Always"

"Don't you get sick of her screaming at you?"

"Well, do you?"

The younger shakes his head. "So.. she knew you loved her?"

"I said it a few times, but she must think I was joking"

"It must be hard for you. I can't imagine if one day I wake up and Utahime is not here with me"

Both of them watch Utahime who is busy in her own world from their seats. She said earlier there was an injured kitten around school garden, hence she is looking for it now. Among the bushes, behind a tree trunk, in an abandoned well

"I hope our fates do not collide, so you won't have to relive the same pain as me. I can't lose Utahime twice too", the older sighs. "Only if I could go back in time right before that fight, I'd never asked her a favour. I would've died instead, it has to be me"

"Just like you, I too believe I can do anything to protect her. But then, have you ever thought in Utahime's perspective. Do you think she is someone who would let us die?"

Gojo frowns, cannot quite catch what the younger version of him says

"I think she had loved you too, your Utahime"

Oh

"You never thought she might actually does?"

The older shakes his head

"Idiot", the younger scoffs. "You said it was your fault. So embrace that truth. Live in torment if you have to, until the day you die. But don't ever replace her, and do not erase her"

Gojo feels his chest tightens after listening to his teen self. Everything he spouts hits him squarely in the guts. Perhaps because he is him, thus he knows which button to push

"Gojo!", young Utahime shouts. "I mean, Satoru! No..", she scratches her head, confused. "Gojo Satoru who is wearing glasses!", struggling

"Yes, Utahime. Why?", the Gojo Satoru who is wearing glasses replies instead of the blindfolded one

"Come here for a bit", she waves

"Okay", he raises a 👌 and gets up from the bench. Before leaving, he turns to his older self and says

"I will not end up like you. I will tell Utahime that I love her, and she will definitely love me back. Then we will go out on lots of dates, we will kiss, we will get married and have kids together. I will not lose her. I promise you that"

"Gojo!", Utahime calls again

"I'm coming, Utahime~", he shouts back, walking towards her

"What takes you so long?", Utahime whines

"Sorry, the old man just won't let me go"

"That old man will be you in a few years", she laughs

"Nuh uh, I'll turn out better than him"

Utahime tilts her head to the side. "What do you mean?"

"Nothing. Where is the kitten?", Gojo crouches down beside Utahime

"There", she points

Gojo's lips coil into a soft smile as he watch the younger version of himself and Utahime together. He better keep his words this time

The tears in my eyes while writing this down. A little bit of angst for today 🤧
