***************************************************The Narrator is in a better mood than before and has decided to take The Curator's advice and go for a small, after all, it couldn't possibly hurt anyone to do so.
He recalls seeing a coffee shop that he used to go to before "The depression" (as The Curator calls it) and decides to pay it a little visit.
He was thankful that his home isn't very far away from the coffee shop, and walking there isn't a bad idea, especially when it means an opportunity to excercise, even if it's a little.
As he approached the coffee shop, he noticed that the sign is different from what he remembers. What used to be 'JIM'S COFFEE: THE STARBURST ' is now 'JIM'S COFFEE: IN MEMORY OF THE STARBURST'.
[hm, weird. Will question later.] He thought to himself and walked into the coffee shop. Literally. The glass door to the coffee shop was so clean, he didn't even notice it's existence until his face banged on it. He rubbed his sore nose and pushed the door open and walked in.
The moment he entered the coffee shop, the rich and fragrant smell of the raw concentrated coffee sent his nose to heaven. Everything seemed to still be the same. The coffee shop was like a small spacious hardwood box of plush with plants (specifically ferns) hanging from anywhere. There was only a table (or two) that was left uncleaned. He had arrived just after lunch hour, so the place wasn't very busy.
Now, The Narrator is (was) good friends with the owner, for The Narrator could communicate with the owner easier than he could with anyone else, and was ready to aplogize and make up for his past 2 years of absence.
He walked up to the register and noticed that the workers have now changed (not that he had bothered to even make aquatintence with the previous workers). The new cashier has long ginger hair and fair skin. She has minor freckles that makes her seem more approachable.
"Welcome to Jim's coffee. Would like to order from the menu or place your own personal order?" she said cheerfully, her hand hovering over the keyboard, ready to take his order.
[Place a personal order? That's new.] He thought to himself.
"I'd like to place a personal order, please. Dark coffee with a shot of dark chocolate." He said politely.
The cashier that was typing his order quickly stopped and looked up at surprise written on her face.
"That's actually a special addition to the menu, it's called 'The Narrator's coffee', and it has quite a backstory to it." She said with a smile and quickly finished typing out the order.
His special order is now a part of the menu? Well, that's very surprising and perhaps a little touching.
"Oh? Tell me about it. Your piqued my interest." He said quickly, wanting to hear about his coffee.
"Well, theres a story that there was to be a loyal customer that would come every single day without fail and order the sames specifically requested coffee."
"But then one day, he stopped coming. It was like he vanished from the face of the earth. So in memory of the customer, the owner made it a special order on the menu, which you know that it's now called 'The Narrator's coffee'.
"Apparently, the special customer prefers to be called 'The Narrator.'" She said. The way she said it sounded as if she was telling a child a bed time story.
"Anyways, could I get a name, please?" She said, snapping back to reality, a pen in her hand poised over a cup to write down his name.
"Oh, um, Harry." He said, still going through the story in his head.
"Alright, your coffee should be ready in a minute." She said before disappearing to the back (probably to hand the order to the barista).
The Narrator took a seat nearby to wait. He was still processing this newfound information. The nice coffee shop owner that he knows as 'Mr.Jim' has specially added his special order onto the menu in memory of him?
He doesn't know how to feel about this. He is happy and touched at the gesture but he also feels guilty for just disappearing like that without warning.
He eventually makes up his mind, an decides that he will apologize and offer a full explaination when they meet.
