The room is enormous, and circular shaped. A massive golden chandelier droops from the center of the ceiling, filling the room with a bright warm light. There are no windows in this room, but instead, platforms with multiple different weapons stacked together. Noah leads us to the room, pulling me closer.
"Wow. I heard that insult back there. Good job, you managed to get an Elysium mad. I clearly remember telling you that that's the last thing you do. Now, you're gonna be working with him for a while." I turn away, annoyance working its way into me.
"I don't care. Both him and Octavia get on my nerves. It's just a status. Elysium. Good for him. What's he gonna do, kill me with his Elysia?" He shrugs, bringing me to a weapon platform.
"Just gonna make life harder for you. And I don't know if you haven't noticed, but he's quite handsome. Most of the normal girls fall for him. I guess you aren't normal." His eyes glitter in the light, and he stares straight into mine, smiling warmly. It is necessary to walk away, the intensity of his startling amber eyes too much to handle. I take a look at a platform, glittery and reflective in the light. My black locks were wavy and smooth, falling past my shoulders and draping around me like a curtain. Stormy grey eyes blink back at me, bubbling with brewing emotions. Wait... I'm not supposed to look at my reflections. Or any reflective surfaces at all. I instantly turn around, just to fine Zane, amber eyes maliciously twinkling.
"You just looked in that mirror." Why does he care?
"Nothing happened-" I bite my tongue, trying to stay silent. If he wants to get on my nerves, let him. I won't give him the satisfaction of making me angry. He lowers his face to mine, the relaxing smell of the ocean overwhelming me.
"Hm. You're an interesting one, you." He pauses, glancing back at the weapon podium behind me. "May I?" I nod. He reaches over my shoulder, arm grazing against my face. The touch was instant and shocking. It ignited me with fire wherever his arm brushed my face, leaving me full of... something. He takes a dagger from the stand, pulling his arm back.
"A dagger, made of iridium, the only metal Mimics can get hurt by. Iridium is the only metal we can kill Mimics with." Zane hands it over to me, and I grip the dagger, smooth on my palm. It is like it is molded to my fingers. The initials 'A.M.H.' are carved into its iridium blade. I press my fingers across the shiny blade surface, and jerk back, dropping the dagger onto the ground, the loud clang echoing through the room. Pain sears through my fingers and vibrates through my body. I glance at my fingers. Nothing was there, but the pain hurts. Everyone stares at me now, especially Noah, concern etched into his face.
"What was that?" I whisper to Zane, but he doesn't answer. His eyes are unreadable, dark, and mysterious, catching my gaze for a second. His black locks were falling in front of one of his amber eyes, masking his emotions.
"Frontkeeper." He speaks with malice, jaw ticking. He crouches and picks up the dagger, places it back on the podium, and walks away, silent. What just happened? Everyone gets back to their normal businesses, and Noah casually and quickly, comes up to me, examining the weaponry. What's a Frontkeeper?
"Are you okay? What just happened?" I slowly nod, unable to look away from Zane, who was now with Octavia, quiet. Noah, still observing the same weapon, leans towards my ear. "What did he do?"
"Nothing."
"You're lying to me." Anger was brimming in his eyes, as well as disbelief and shock. What did he expect? He can't expect me to tell him everything.
"I'm not lying to anyone." I walk the other way.
After we picked up weapons from the weapon room, where I took the dagger Zane has first shown me, we move on to the plan.
* * *
"Alright, so we all know that when someone is taken by a Mimic, they take them to another universe through a Front. The question is, how do we get through a Front?" Another girl stands up, blonde hair cascading down to her shoulders.
"I think I know." Everyone turns to her, the one I hadn't even noticed till now. She just followed us around, never spoke a word. That is, until now. James raises his eyebrows, crossing his arms.
"Finally the scientist speaks up." She grins, jumping on her toes.
"Doc, you cannot be talking." James smiles and she giggles, sitting back down. Noah, curious, smooths his perfect shirt down, crossing his arms.
"Go on, Mia." The girl, Mia places her hands together in a focused motion, pulling out some notes.
"Okay. I've been doing research on this for a year now. Technically, when anybody enters a Front, you're divided into all your subatomic particles, changing state for that millisecond. This is partially because a Front is a quantum realm, we can't travel through unless we're smaller than atoms themselves. Theoretically speaking, if we can use a particle accelerator to split us into our subatomic states exactly when we enter a Front, we can travel through. For when we get back, we don't wanna die because we're particles. So Doc, you have the spotlight." James, pushing up his round glasses on the bridge of his nose, squints at Mia.
"Well, I actually was doing some research on this a few days ago. We need a subafusor. If we use it in a matter of 5 milliseconds when we exit the Front in the Mimic universe, then we can safely reach the Mimic dimension." Zane, who was quiet the entire time, glances up, deep in thought. His amber eyes were dark, and he looks straight at me, as if I am doing something wrong. He runs his long fingers down the stubble on his chin, eyes focused on me.
"Then let's do it." Mia, now smiling in excitement jumps up.
"It is dangerous, but if we get the right equipment, which is in a concoction, we can do it and not cease to exist. The emulsified liquid needs to be perfect. But James and I can do it." James nods, his expression filled with eagerness. I didn't understand a single word James and Mia had said in the past few minutes, but it didn't matter. If are were gonna get Tina back, that's all that matters.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow will be the answer to if we can physically travel to the Mimic dimension.
