Diane Shone had always been a little... shy. She was never confident in herself that so she never put herself out there but now she had the whole schools' eyes on her. Since Vanessa Dunbar had taken the stage at McKinley High School, the rise in the bands' popularity skyrocketed. Vanessa was like a beam of light that shone (no pun attended) on everyone around her. The shy little 17 year old didn't have the time to be shy anymore as everyone suddenly knew her name.
Vanessa had convinced to girls to pick up roller skating at the local park and they went every Tuesday night after school. The girls' picked up the hobby quickly, Vanessa teaching them tricks that they could use to 'impress the public' of the skating park.
The sun was beating hard on the girls as they skated around. There was a few teenage boys on their skateboards ollying like their lives depended on it, a few parents scattered around trying to teach their children how to ride their bikes.
Mel was holding on to Diane for dear life, trying her best to not fall over her own feet, "Girl, I don't think I'm getting any better."
"That's because you don't know the difference of left from right." Phebe teasingly shot back at her. Mel flipped her the bird in response but regrettable so as soon after she slipped back, crashing to the floor and taking Diane with her. The group all looked at each other gobsmacked before bursting into laughter.
Diane stared at all her friends from on the floor. Mel, god she had no co-ordination but she had jokes that could make a monk laugh. Her and Alexander were perfect for each other, when they were together the whole group was in perpetual tears from laughter. Phebe had every boy she wanted wrapped around her finger because she knew her worth and didn't give a damn about what people thought of her. And Vanessa. Vanessa was a whirlwind. Talented, beautiful and ambitious. I'm nothing like any of them.
Vanessa caught on to Diane's spiral of thoughts and sat down next to her as Phebe tried to teach Mel how to skate backwards, "What's up buttercup?"
Diane exhaled, not wanting to put a damper on the fun that they were all having but she just couldn't help her thoughts from overwhelming her. Vanessa was intuitive as well. She told the group that it was because of her Cancer moon so there was no point hiding anything from her.
"Do you think I'm... Cool enough to be in the band?"
"Are you stupid or just dumb?" Vanessa shot back, "Of course you're cool enough to be in the band! What's got into you?"
Diane shrugged, "I don't know. I just look at you three and it's like... You're so perfect and put together and then I look at myself and it's like nothing. I see nothing but awkwardness and unknowing."
"Girl, I am far from perfect. I took years to perfect my look and everyone else you see that you admire is the same. But sometimes I question myself-"
"I've never been kissed." Diane blurted out. All three girls paused as they listened to Diane's confession. The girl was stunning, it was ludicrous that she in all 17 years of existence had never touched lips with another. Diane was a pretty private person, all the group just assumed that she wasn't one to kiss and tell. Clearly they were wrong.
