chapter 40: fawn's home

~fawn~

As much as I enjoyed our trip to Spain, it's nice to be back at home. Port Orthos has always been a welcoming place, especially when I was younger and would visit my aunt and uncle for the summer. I always looked forward to coming here, so it's no surprise I decided to live here after all the shit that went down with my ex and my family.

The moment we walk inside our house, some of the pets rush over to us to greet us. Well, more so to greet me. Maisy starts clawing at my legs whereas both the cats attempt to climb my clothes to signal that they want me to hold them.

"I am still convinced you're an animal whisperer," Marius says, looking at Ophelia who is now sitting on top of my head. "I don't get how every single animal we come across loves you this much."

"Are you saying I'm not lovable?" I ask.

"I would never say anything like that," Marius says.

Mary-Anne walks over to us. "Welcome home," she signs. "How was your trip?"

"It was amazing," I say. "Thank you for petsitting for us. I hope they weren't too much trouble for you."

"No, not at all. Maisy would sit by the front door and howl on the first day but other than that, everything was fine."

Marius opens the suitcase we filled with gifts for our family and friends. He grabs the gift bag for Mary-Anne and hands it to her. "This is for you."

Mary-Anne smiles as she takes the gift bag from Marius. She opens it up and takes out the pink ceramic mug we bought for her. Mary-Anne absolutely loves collecting mugs and pink is her favourite colour so we thought this was perfect for her. She smiles even wider before signing, "Thank you," then gives both me and Marius a hug.

Both of our cats have stopped climbing me and is now back on the ground. Harlow decides to go play with them which satisfies them since they love playing with Harlow. Maisy, on the other hand, hasn't stopped pawing at me, so I give her all the attention she wants.

Fern tugs on Marius's pants, trying to get his attention. When he looks at her, she holds out her arms. He picks her up, and Fern rubs her eyes, signalling that she's tired. "Do you want to go for a nap?" Marius asks. Fern nods.

However, Fern doesn't like napping in her bedroom alone, so I tell Harlow it's time for her to go for a nap as well. She fusses for a bit, only because she wants to keep playing with the cats, but I'm able to convince her.

As I get the twins down for a nap, Marius drives Mary-Anne back to her house so she doesn't have to carry everything she brought with her. Once the twins are fast asleep in their beds, I head downstairs and settle on the couch.

Marius soon returns and upon seeing me on the couch, he walks over to me and gives me a kiss before sitting down beside me. I press my lips back onto his, lying down on the couch and pull him down on top of me.

We kiss for a bit before pulling away from each other. Marius strokes my hair before tucking a few strands behind my ear. "I'm so happy you're my husband now," Marius says. "I don't think I'll ever get tired of calling you my husband, husband."

I smile at that one word that used to have such a negative meaning behind it but now, it gives me such joy. It makes me feel loved and happy. "Me too, husband."

Marius smiles back at me before pressing his lips on mine for a lingering kiss before snuggling next to me on the couch. No matter how many days past, I can't get over the fact that I was able to marry such an amazing man. Marius is the best thing to have ever happened to me.

Seeing as we're both jet lagged from the flight back home, Marius and I decide to nap for a bit as well. It probably isn't the best idea since it's only two in the afternoon and we should try getting used to our time zone again, but I don't feel like I can keep my eyes open any longer. Besides, we don't have to adjust back to our time zone today. We can take the week to do it if we really need to.

Marius and I head to our bedroom to nap since our bed is extremely comfortable. Bless Marius for having great taste in comfortable mattresses. I turn on the baby monitor so we can listen for when Fern and Harlow wake up before I snuggle into Marius.

I fall asleep quite quickly since I'm both very tired and comfortable in Marius's arms. My nap lasts a while, thankfully, and I'm surprisingly not woken up by the baby monitor. Instead, I'm woken up by a sudden shift of movement on the bed. I slowly open my eyes to now see Fern lying down beside me and Harlow trying to climb onto the bed.

Marius, who is now off the bed, picks Harlow up and places her on the bed. Harlow lies down as well before Marius gets back onto the bed. "I was thinking we could order food so we don't have to make anything," Marius says. "I'm still too tired to do anything and I assume you are too."

"You're not wrong," I say. "And as much as I love making dinner, I agree. We should order in. Alright, Fern and Harlow. What do you want to have for dinner?"

"Pizza!" Harlow says excitedly. Fern nods her head in agreement.

"Pizza it is," Marius says, grabbing his phone off of the nightstand to order some pizza for us. He already knows the toppings we all like so he orders pizza that would suit all of our tastes. Once it's ordered, Marius lifts up the blanket so he and the twins can get under it. We'll probably spend the rest of the day lounging around on our bed, but I don't mind. I love these little moments I spend with my family.
