Weeks passed slowly, the guards working on getting the manifested new identities and finding them new homes far away.
Jon, Kelly, Scotty, Jaren and a few others insisted on staying though, Jon never leaving Brock's side. Brian was never found far either, worry in his heart.
Everyone refused to use their power until they could destroy the radar, though Brian had been tempted several times to try and heal his friend. He'd had several conversations with his spirit, learning about the past between him and the Phoenix.
He'd learned that they were intertwined, their souls bonded since the dawn of time. They always chose to reincarnate together, though sometimes they took years before they could find each other.
Brian wondered what that would mean for him and Brock, if the feelings he felt so intensely for the other were because of that bond. The Pegasus had chuckled at him, telling him that while their spirits were bonded, there had been several times where the human side of them couldn't stand the other.
The humans of course were in control of their own emotions, lives and families. So whatever Brock and Brian felt, was all them.
Brian felt relieved at that, and spent the five weeks that Brock was unconscious reflecting on what he felt. He knew he cared deeply for Brock, but was it more?
On day 43 of Brock being unconscious, Jon had found Brian sitting at the desk in the office. He sat there, staring at the wood while Brian watched him.
Evan had told him he was a manifested owl, his power having come in at 12. Jon hadn't known what to think of that, and spent a week hiding away in Brock's room until he finally came forward and hit Evan hard.
"That's for lying to me," Jon had said and Evan had swallowed, looking guilty. Jon stared at Evan, indecision on his face before shaking his head.
He had leaned forward and kissed Evan's cheek, the latter blinking in shock. "And that's for everything else," he had muttered, rushing off to disappear into Brock's room again.
Jon looked up at Brian, sighing. "It's been over a month, is he not going to wake?" He asked softly and Brian shrugged, looking down.
"There's nothing we can do?" Jon pleaded and Brian shook his head helplessly. "I don't know. I could try to heal him, but unless we want to bring hell to our doorstep, I don't want to risk it. I don't know what I can do," he said quietly and Jon sighed.
His eyes got wide for a moment before looking up. "Do you still have the doctored bottle Brock gave you?" He asked and Brian blinked, thinking hard. "I- I do. It's in the safe," he said slowly, hope trickling in.
"Can we try it? I don't know if Phoenix tears will work on the Phoenix, but we can try, right?" Jon asked and Brian thought hard. The Phoenix had never thought to try his own tears, but if we add our power to it, even if it's just a drop of our blood, it could work, the Pegasus said quietly and Brian nodded slowly.
"Let me try," he said, standing and going to the safe in his room. He punched the code and spun the dial, grabbing the thermos he'd put the water in to keep it clean and drinkable.
He pricked his finger, the Pegasus putting a hidden pulse of power into the drop as it fell into the water. It dissolved, a silver shimmer blinking out of sight.
Brian went to Brock's room, eyes sad as he took in the unmoving form of his best friend. He poured some of the water into a small cup, lifting Brock to tilt the liquid into his mouth.
He watched as a twined thread of gold and silver trail down Brock's throat, settling over his heart before flashing once extremely brightly. Brian and Jon flinched and covered their eyes at the light, blinking away spots as they watched their friend.
