As Marie drove up the long winding driveway to my house, loud barking caught my attention and my head was drawn in the direction it was coming from in time to see A whispy, shadowy figure of a hag with dark holes for eyes, was flying toward the car at an alarming rate. The moment I blinked, it was replaced by Lady who was bounding down the driveway toward us at max speed.

Alarmed and a bit spooked, I reached out and grabbed Marie's arm. "Stop the car!" I cried out.

"What the hell?" Marie asked startled as she stomped on the break and looked at me with a cocked brow. Hearing the dog, her head swivelled toward her happy barking form. "Why did you leave Lady outside?"

"But I didn't!" I denied as I reached out to open the passenger's side door but her hand on my forearm stopped me. Marie reached behind her seat to open the back door seconds before Lady reached the car and swiftly hopped in the back seat. Marie somehow managed to close the door while trying to fend off an excited Lady who kept dividing her attention between myself and Marie as she showers us with doggy kisses.

"Maybe Jason came home then?" She suggests and I hoped that was the case. I honestly hated the thought of being inside the house alone no matter the time of day.

I quickly dig out my cell phone and dial Jason's number when I notice Jason's car is nowhere in sight and the garage door is closed once we reach the front of my house. "Hello honey," I say into my phone when Jason answers. "Are you still at work?"

"Yeah, I'll be heading home in a couple of hours," He replies. "Is something wrong?"

"Did you stop by the house while I was gone?" I ask next.

"No, why do you ask?" I could hear confusion and concern in his voice. "What's going on?"

"We drove up to find Lady outside," I explain. "But I made sure she was inside before I left."

"Do not go inside," Jason instructs calmly, though I can tell he's now quite alarmed. "Call the police and stay in the car until they arrive. I'll be on my way home in about thirty to forty minutes."

Nodding my head I hang up and was about to dial our local police when I realize Marie had beaten me to it and was talking with a dispatcher. "They're sending someone out," She informs me once she hangs up. "They said to stay in the car and wait for the officers."

"Jason said the same thing," I tell her as I unconsciously rub my protruding belly in a comforting way.

The police showed up twenty minutes later and conducted a thorough search of the house and the perimeter before they told us to call them if we had any more problems, then left. "Why don't we go inside?" I ask Marie but she was vehemently shaking her head before I finished talking.

"I love you to death, Amy," Marie assured me. "I would even go to hell and back for you, but one place I refuse to go is your house!"

Nodding my head in understanding, I sigh deeply and steel myself for the unpleasant task of entering my house alone. Then I mentally shake myself, fully remembering that I don't believe in ghosts. I admit that everything that's happened has a logical explanation, which I need to discover.

"Ok then," I say to her as I prepare to open the passenger's door. "Thank you for taking me out to lunch and make sure to call me when you get home."

I screeched in fear, which made Marie scream as well, as the car door was ripped out of my hand. I quickly turned to see Jason standing there with a co-worker of his, Steve Carmichael. Lady who had been napping in the back seat sprung into action and launched herself into the front seat, then out of the car to greet the new arrivals, stepping all over me in the process.

"Oof!" I exclaim as one of Lady's paws made contact with my bladder.

"Damnit Lady, move!" Jason admonishes the dog as he gently pushes her away and insinuates himself between us. "Are you ok baby?"

Nodding, I smile up at him hoping to ease the worry on his face. "Other than needing to use the bathroom very badly now," I explain with a small laugh as Jason helps me out of the car while Steve held Lady back by her collar. "I'm fine."

Just as Jason leaned in for a hello kiss, Lady started to growl aggressively. We all turned to see why she was growling and noticed she was looking toward the house, teeth bared and hackles raised. Looking toward the house, I couldn't contain the gasp that flew past my lips at the sight of a person looking out of the nursery's window and another at the living room's window.

"Stay here!" Jason orders as he and Steve run into the house.

Marie jumped out of her car and wrapped her arm around me protectively while we waited. Though Lady continued to growl ferociously, she made no move to enter the house. The two people who'd been looking out the windows had disappeared the minute the two men entered the house and it was long minutes before they exited the house shaking their heads with similar baffled looks at finding nothing.

One night some weeks later, I was home alone. It was very late when I decided to retire for the night. I'd just crawled into bed and closed my eyes when a noise made my eyes snap open to see a shadow standing in the doorway. "Jason?" I called out but instead of replying, the figure took a step out of the shadows and what stood before me was the figure a grotesque-looking hag.

The hag-like entity had empty sockets for eyes, from which maggots and tiny spiders crawled out. Its gaping mouth had dangerous-looking pointy, sharp teeth with saliva dripping from it. Instead of hair, it had flames that danced around in the same way hair caught by the wind would move.

With a shriek to rival any self-respecting banshee, this entity flung itself at me. Before I could blink, it had me pinned down on the bed with bony hands wrapped around my neck. I could feel its hot, putrid breath on my face, the stench of which caused me to gag and cough. Its hands continued to tighten until I couldn't take a breath and I wondered how long it would take me to die.
