At dinner that evening, the mood is quite depressed.
Harry doesn't know how to prove that he didn't put his name in the goblet, Hermione is upset about this and is desperate for a solution, Ron doesn't believe Harry and I can't believe anything.
Viktor and Cedric are in the tournament. I can also camp in the Forbidden Forest at night, I would prefer that! As a result, I'm not hungry at all.
"Excuse me," I mumble absently, wrapping Viktor's cloak around me and exiting the Great Hall. I need fresh air to keep my brain from overheating.
"Y/n!" Ced suddenly shouts from behind me. "Where are you going?"
"Out," I mumble, fighting back tears. I give him and Viktor the honor of playing in this stupid tournament and representing your school, but Dumbledore and Crouch said it was dangerous.
Heavy and dangerous. He catches up with me and grabs my hand.
"Wait a minute," he says, forcing me to look at him. And he sees those stupid tears and his expression softens. "You cry about something like that?"
"Shut up!" I snap at him, punching him in the chest.
And one more and one more because somehow I have to let it all out. Ced eventually grabs my wrists and holds them tight, then pulls me tight. "Now calm down, little one."
"What if something happens to you?" I ask quietly now, clutching his shirt.
"Nothing will happen to me,” he says for the thousandth time.
"You can also worry about your Viktor, that relieves me a little."
"You stupid idiot!" I curse and hit him again, but he laughs and kisses the top of my head. "Considering that furry behemoth, I'm assuming your date was good," he laughs.
"It was," I agree. "Don't distract."
"I'm not distracting, I'm sincerely asking about my best friend," he replies mischievously.
"I hate you," I moan, hugging him a little tighter. "Especially since you're a Triwizard Champ now."
"In truth you love me and therefore I love you too, and I really appreciate your euphoric support,"
he laughs, patting my head as he often does. "Just promise me you'll take care of yourself! If you realize something ugly is about to happen, you either leave or give up or do anything to save yourself. Do we understand each other?” I bark at him now and look him straight in the eyes. "Yes, Mom," he replies, amused. I break away from him completely and point to the coat.
"I'd rather give this one back to the other champ." We say goodbye, Ced goes to his common room and I'm about to turn the corner into the Great Hall when I run straight into Viktor.
"Hey." I say smiling. "I was looking for you."
"Did you? Then why did you run out, I was here.“, he replies and grins outrageously sweet.
"That... was different," I murmur, then smile again. "Here's your coat."
"Are you warm again?" Viktor asks, smiling in a way that makes my knees go weak.
"Definitely, thank you," I answer dutifully, trying to get my racing heart rate under control.
"I hope you'll cheer me on at the tournament.", he now says quietly and takes a step towards me. "Among other things," I reply with a smile. "I have to cheer for Ced and Harry too."
"So the competition?" he says, eyebrows raised, but I know he's actually joking.
"My friends," I correct him anyway and he nods and smiles. "I know." Then his face becomes more serious. “But this.. Cedric. Is he your friend?"
"My best friend," I explain proudly. "Why?"
"So you're just friends?" he asks again and I nod. "You look very familiar," he murmurs now.
"And many people have spoken of you." "Yes, for years!" I laugh then.
"This is nothing new. We've been best friends since we were kids."
"Nothing more?" - "Nothing more." Viktor looks really relieved as he smiles. "I hope to see you soon? Maybe tomorrow?" I smile enthusiastically at him. "Gladly! Where do we meet?"
"Tomorrow afternoon, here?" I nod. "Absolutely, yes. Then.. good night, Viktor.” As always, he bows to me and kisses my hand. "Sleep well." How could I not sleep well after this encounter?
