ALEX POV
Alex and Jack walked out of science as the school bell signalled the end of the day. They had had both english and science together and had spent most of the two lessons chatting about completely random things. Alex was starting to really like Jack; he seemed like a nice guy.
“Hey, I was just wondering… Um” Jack began awkwardly
“Wondering what?” Alex asked
“If you’d wanna come back to mine for a bit, I mean my parents are at work till 6… if you don’t want to then that’s fine… it was just an idea…” Jack muttered, fading off quietly at the end and looking at his shoes. He looked so nervous it made Alex’s heart melt.
“Yeah sure! That’d be great!” Alex answered enthusiastically, jack looked up and smiled.
“Really?” Jack said.
“Yeah! I best call my parents first though so they don’t worry.” Alex said, though this was a lie. His parents wouldn’t worry about him, the reason Alex needed to call them was because his dad would get really angry if he didn’t tell them where he was going and he didn’t want his dad getting angry. He was fucking scary when he was angry.
“Yeah sure, do you have a mobile? You can borrow mine if you want” Jack said.
“No it’s fine I have a phone, I’ll call them now” Alex replied, taking out his phone.
…
10 minutes later the two boys were walking back to Jacks house. Alex’s mum had been the one to answer the phone, which Alex was extremely grateful for. If his dad had answered then he might not have let him go, ever since Daryl died he had become very protective. His mum had just told him to be careful and be back by six. She was obviously glad that Alex was settling in to his new school already.
“So where is your place?” Alex asked Jack
“Just down here… then another left down there” Jack said, pointing.
“Hey that’s my street over there” Alex said, pointing to a block just across from Jacks street.
“Wow that’s cool we live really close to each other” Jack said, grinning.
They walked for a few more minutes, chatting about random things, when finally they reached Jacks house.
“Wow it’s huge!!” Alex said, looking at the house.
“That’s what she said.” Jack said, winking at Alex.
Alex started laughing.
Then he realised.
This was the first time he’d properly laughed since Daryl had died.
Jack, oblivious to this, lead Alex to the front door and got out his key, letting them into the house.
The house was massive. There were two living rooms, a dining room and a huge kitchen, just on the first floor.
“Well this isn’t fair” Said Alex, pouting. “I live literally 5 minutes down the road, yet your house is like triple the size of mine!”
Jack grinned smugly, “Ha!” he said, then his smile faltered. “My parents have good jobs, that’s why.”
“What do they do?” Alex asked.
“They’re both doctors” Jack said bitterly.
“Wow! That’s amazing” Alex said smiling. However Jack didn’t seem proud of this at all. He pulled a quick, unconvincing smile and then changed the conversation,
“Do you want a drink?” Jack muttered, walking towards the massive kitchen. Alex wanted to find out more about Jacks parents but he seemed uncomfortable talking about them so Alex didn’t want to press the subject.
“Sure, what do you have?” Alex said, following Jack into the kitchen. It was spotless. Everything was shiny, clean and in the correct place. However, it unnerved Alex slightly, it didn’t seem like it had been lived in.
“Everything… Coke, lemonade, orange juice…?” Jack said.
“Coke please” Alex replied, smiling.
“Okay sure, you go in the living room, I’ll get the drinks” Jack said, pointing towards a room on their left. Alex nodded. Entering the living room, he looked around. Just like the kitchen, it was flawless, not one thing out of place. Alex sat down on the couch nervously, not wanting to mess anything up. A few minutes later Jack came through the door carrying the two drinks and holding a huge bowl of popcorn.
“Popcorn!!” Alex squealed excitedly.
“Damn right” Jack said, placing the two drinks and the popcorn down on the coffee table. “So what do ya wanna watch?” Jack asked.
“I don’t mind, whatever you want” Alex answered.
“Do you like the film Home Alone?” Jack asked, smiling hopefully.
“Who doesn’t?!” Alex exclaimed “it’s the best film ever!”
“Let’s watch that then!” Jack grinned. He looked like a child being given sweets. Alex smiled at his cuteness. Damn he was falling for him, he knew it. Every time Jack looked at him, he got butterflies in his stomach. He couldn’t help it. He’d never even considered the thought of being gay before, but now it just seemed… natural. But what if Jack isn’t gay? Even if he was, he probably wouldn’t like you; he’s way out of your league. Alex thought miserably. Just then Jack jumped onto the couch next to him as the begging titles of Home Alone started playing. Alex forgot all of his worries and just enjoyed the moment. Sitting next to Jack watching his favourite movie. He was the happiest he’d been in a long time.
