Georgia stepped into her small house, looking around and sighing deeply again. This time she heard it, though. Wow, she did sigh deeply, she thought as she discarded all her stuff before she went to the kitchen to make herself some food. She tasted a little of it when her phone rang. She grabbed it and saw it was her mother.

"Hey, mom."

"How did it go?" her mother asked right away.

"I'm good, thank you for asking," Georgia joked.

"Oh, right. How are you?"

"I'm good. How are you?"

"Good. Now how did it go?"

Georgia chuckled, shaking her head at her mother, but not finding her question annoying or bad. She smiled a little as she held the phone to her ear.

"Well..."

"Oh no," her mother said.

"No, it wasn't... yeah, it was bad," she found herself admitting.

"How bad?"

"He hates me."

"What?"

"Yeah."

"How? He hardly knows you," her mother said.

"I don't think that matters to him."

"Why?"

"Because it simply doesn't."

"What happened?"

"He said it quite plainly," Georgia explained. "He doesn't want me there."

"So, that's it?"

"Nope."

"What?" her mother asked.

"I am going over there tomorrow."

"What? Why? He said he didn't want you there."

"Good thing his parents hired me then," Georgia chuckled.

It was quiet for a moment, then she heard her mother laugh too. "My clever girl."

"That's me. Though I was thinking of not going back."

"I understand. If he made it that clear, it's hard to decide not to. What made you change your mind?"

Georgia leaned her head back, not sure what to say. Did his parents know how dark Gavin had become? They had to, but that didn't mean others did.

"Just thought he might need a friend," Georgia said.

"A friend?"

"Yes, a friend."

"Kind of harsh the way he treats a friend," her mother said.

"He didn't ask for one."

"But you will try to be his friend anyway?"

"Yup."

"Sounds like it might explode in your face, sweetheart," her mother chuckled.

"Yeah, but sometimes people need a little push."

"I agree. I pushed you to do this."

"It's good money."

"We both know there is more to it," her mother said.

"We do."

"You have a good heart."

"Hasn't always done me good."

"But it has. I know the world likes to exploit, but it helps people that you are who you are," her mother said.

"Thank you."

"Know I am proud of you."

"I know," she said.

"And your dad too."

"I know that as well."

"You keep pushing," her mother said.

"I will try."

"Just not too hard."

Georgia chuckled.

"No, I get that. I will just be there. Hopefully, he will see the good in it."

"Hopefully," her mother agreed.

"Now I am getting back to dinner."

"Call me again tomorrow."

"I will," Georgia said before telling her mother goodbye and hanging up. She turned back to her dinner, but as she stood there cooking, she really hoped she was making a huge mistake by returning to help Gavin.
