"Arcturus."

The name left my lips before I even realized I had spoken.

For a moment, nothing happened.

The figure remained on the other side of the lake, half-hidden between the trees, completely still beneath the dark branches.

The morning mist drifted slowly across the water, curling around the shore and making everything beyond it look distant and unreal.

Pale light was beginning to break through the clouds above us, but the forest remained swallowed in shadow and somehow that made the figure standing there seem even more impossible.

My heart stopped.

Or at least, it felt like it did.

It was him.

Every part of me seemed to recognize him before my mind had the chance to question it.

The familiar shoulders.

Hair.

The way he held his head high.

Even from this distance, even through the mist and the darkness, there was something about him that made every memory I had tried so hard to bury suddenly come rushing back.

I remembered his voice.

The sound of his laugh.

I remembered being younger and following him through the house, always convinced that wherever Arcturus was, I was safe.

I remembered the last time I saw him.

And then I remembered losing him.

My chest tightened so violently that I instinctively brought a hand towards it.

"No."

The word came out barely louder than a breath.

Mattheo shifted in front of me, his arms losning around me. "Sienna?"
