A sliver of warm bright light forces you to open your puffy eyes. You don't know how long you slept but whatever it was, wasn't enough. A loud *CRASH* can be heard from downstairs, Bea was home from work. That means it's..late afternoon?!You mumble to yourself "I really need to get my schedule worked out."
You feel a heavy lump climb onto your stomach. You sank deeper into your cheap mattress. Gizmo's loud purring could be mistaken for a jet engine. "Hi baby" You run your hands through his soft fur. You let out a sigh, he was just getting comfortable but you had to get up sooner or later.
Gently, you pick him up and place him on the chilly wooden floor. Winter in Oakley was nice but it would be better if you had a working heater. You slip on your slippers and go to the bathroom to get freshened up for the day, or the night.Bea yells for you from downstairs her strong voice telling you lunch is ready. You slip on your favorite sweater and head down, leaving the door open so that Gizmo can wander. The house was relatively old so it was very creaky and the stairs were a gamble with every step. Whether or not you would break the plank and fall through. It's was still a pretty house nonetheless.
"Morning sunshine!" Bea shouted sarcastically from the kitchen. You rubbed your eyes still very sleep deprived. "Ha ha, you're so funny! Ever thought of doing standup?" You retort. "Omg totallyy! Haha no but, what time did you even go to bed ? Your eyes are bloodshot, not to mention those eye bags.." She mumbles the last part. " I'm not sure... Maybe 10?" She thinks for a second. " Wait pm?" You pause, "...Am." "WHAT THE FUCK Y/N??" She quietly shouts. "I DON'T KNOW! I was working on this case and there was just so many blank spots in the timeline and evidence, I guess I just forgot to pace myself." You spoke slightly disappointed in yourself. She lets out a frustrated sigh. "It's important to take breaks, next time set an alarm or something. I don't want you walking around barely conscious." You rest your forearms on the counter and slump down. "Yeah I know, I'll try to."
Even though Bea was your closest friend there were still things you didn't want her knowing, mostly about your work. Last night you had worked on the "Oakley slasher" case but there was tons of inconsistencies. The killer would go on sprees that would last week's and then just.. disappear. There was no clear pattern to the murders, not the manner in which they died, the victim, or the time. Nothing was adding up and it was killing you.
You were lost in thought when Bea placed a plate of spaghetti on the table in front of you. "Pasta? For breakfast?"You ask. "It's lunch." She said bluntly. "Oh shit yeah, sorry." You take your fork and start eating. If there was anything Bea was extraordinary at it was cooking, her dishes could make Gordon Ramsay cry happy tears. " Bea *mfhm* this is so fucking good." You said savoring her food. "Thank you, I know." She replied. The front door creaked open and shut quickly, Clyde had just gotten home. His boots thumping over to the dining room. " Morning!" His smooth voice said acknowledging both of you. He quickly slunk an arm around Bea's shoulder and planted a quick kiss on her cheek. "There's pasta on the stove if your hungry honey." Bea spoke. "Nice thank you, but I'll probably only have a bit. A friend from shop invited us to a dorm party his friend was throwing. Don't wanna get full." He said, quickly getting spaghetti in a small bowl. "Sounds fun what time is it?" Bea said still waiting for her food to cool down a bit. " Like 10pm I think. You should have enough time to get ready." He said sitting down at the table. " Yeah that sounds good." She said taking a bite.
Your eyes glazed over, eye drops were a life saver but your eyes were severely dry. You had to keep reapplying it throughout the day. You were finishing up your food when Bea said, " Hey y/n, you should come with us to the party tonight!" You stare at her through bloodshot eyes. "I don't knoww, I mean I have a lot of work to do Bea." "C'mon you rarely go out and you definitely need a break from that crime watch shit. PLEASEE?" She said desperately. You can see in her eyes that she really wants you to go, either for selfish reasons or because she really wants you to have fun. You pause, thinking for a moment. Reluctantly..you agree.
