Lenses, spotlights, cheering of the audience, a long couch, a coffee table, a middle-aged woman wearing a suit while holding a medium-sized card and sitting on the armchair. Somi sighed deeply as she tried to calm herself from the backstage. She's been doing that for four years but until now it never failed to make her heart race like crazy.
"Hey, you okay?"
For a second, Somi's unwanted thoughts were cut as she felt a warm hand laid on her shoulder. She looks at the owner of the voice and sends him a smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes like the usual smile she gives when she genuinely feels happy or excited... She's terrified.
"I don't think I can do this. Dad, this is my first ever international interview."
"Somi, are you kidding me? As if the interviews you do in South Korea are any different. They just aired it on TV but you can literally watch the episode from YouTube. People outside South Korea can watch it."
"I know, but—"
"Hey, listen. Remember four years ago, when you decided to dump yourself on an acting career just because you wanted to prove to your mom that this is what you wanted?"
Somi nods.
"This is it, sweetie. Just think about it, she'll get to watch your interview. You know your mom hates movies and dramas, but I'm sure she'll watch every interview, she likes to snoop her nose into someone's business, yeah."
Somi shook her head as she huffed a chuckle. Her father is right... Well, maybe. But she has her own reason why she's doing that. Not just because she wants to prove to her mom, the woman who left them for money, that she's a better person and she made it without her help.
"Somi, you 'kay?" Freya, Somi's manager asked. Her look softened as she saw that Somi's close to running away from the building and going back to her house where her two kids waiting.
"She's fine, just needed a bit of a knock." Somi's father teased as he tapped Somi's head and ruffled her hair.
"Dad, my hair!"
The manager shook her head and fixed Somi's hair.
"That's for later, Mat. Our star needs to get up on stage, no need to worry, I scanned all the questions, and Glen's like... one of the best hosts you'll ever meet." Somi's manager assured.
"I still don't get why the other cast didn't go with me. This is a such huge step."
"Sulk later, but you have to go there, they'll start in five," Freya said.
Somi's father, Matthew, clapped his hand as he cheered for his daughter. As much as Somi appreciated his dad's effort, she didn't think it helped her when the whole staff of the show started to look at her and her father but mainly her father because of how loud his voice is.
Just by that, Somi's name was called by Glen, the main host of the evening show. People like her because unlike some of the other hosts in the industry, Glen is very open-minded, and obviously because she used to be in the same spotlight before she settled into this main event of her life.
"Glen!"
"Somi!" the older spread her arms for a hug which Somi accepted with a wide smile.
"Everyone, the lovely Sally of When Stars Fallout, Jeon Somi in the house!"
The audience clapped, also cheered as they knew the actress so well. It was safe to say that Somi has been able to build a solid fanbase even if she's just been in the industry for four years. It's not hard to fall for her and like her when she's technically one of the most talented faces on television. Not just she's an actress but she can also sing. There are times when she was given a chance to sing the ost of her own drama. Some fans can agree that she can be an idol too but the actress never really takes it seriously.
