Clary Fairchild didn't know where to go. Her heart seemed to be moving to two different places at once as Hope and Jocelyn looked at one another before they both went in different directions. Clary didn't know whether to follow her mother or her best friend and when her feet finally moved, they were following the blonde but Simon stopped her.
"I'll go after her," He blocked her path as the redhead watched Hope walk away. She didn't want to let her friend go but she knew maybe Simon was the person she needed to see right now as Clary rested a hand on her friend's arm.
"Don't let her do anything stupid," Clary looked into her best friend's eyes and he swore he would keep her safe but he followed her lead.
"Are you okay?" It took Simon a second to reach up to Hope who was talking to a man he had never seen before when he passed her a blunt and she passed him a few loose bills.
"Nope, I'm craving cocaine and death." Hope spoke as she pulled a piece of paper from the pocket of her shorts, she waved it through the air and it lit on fire. She used the small flame to light her blunt before she threw the paper on the ground, grinding it beneath her boot.
"Can you just admit that you're hurt about Jace," Simon watched as she stopped in her tracks, blunt hanging between her lips as she removed it. "I'm the most useless tribrid ever," She mumbled to herself, it's stupid because she's the only tribrid but she expected to be more powerful but she didn't really understand her powers yet and now Jace was gone.
"Jace thinks he's the enemy, he must think we hate him and I can't do anything about it." Hope placed the blunt between her lips again, Simon watched her as he stood at her side.
"You do hate him, right?" Simon knew he was wrong but he needed to hear it from her.
"I love Izzy," Hope turned to face him, her features soft as Simon reached a hand over to remove the blunt from her lips, killing it between his fingers. He took his index finger and placed it under her chin, making her face him as he rested his hand on her shoulder.
"Loving two people doesn't make you a bad person; you are good, Hope." Simon's words make her pause, biting the corner of her mouth. She couldn't stop replaying his words in her head, she had been selfish but maybe that was just something she had in her core. Maybe just being selfish was a larger part of who Hope was.
"I am my father's daughter." Hope gently placed her cheek to his hand, letting herself be comforted for a moment before Simon's phone rang in his pocket.
Simon wanted to say something to her, he wanted to be there for her but he had to take the call and she took a step back. Hope stood by herself, leaning against the wall of a building as she swiped her blunt back from Simon.
When he turned back to her, her eyes were shut as the smoke left her slightly parted lips. "Aldertree wants to talk to us," He put his phone in his pocket as she opened her eyes, they were slightly red tinted as she tossed the blunt on the ground, "Why the fuck does he wanna talk to us after he banished us from his little Institute?" Hope made her way to her apartment, Simon following after her as she ran her fingers through her hair.
"I don't know," Simon stated, they were getting closer to her apartment, "Should we not go?" He asked as she walked through the doors of the apartment complex. They were in her apartment in a blink of an eye.
"If that guy thinks that he can tell me what to do, he's severely delusional." Hope walked straight into her bedroom, Simon following after her.
"If I wanted to go, would you come with me?" Simon watched her walk to her bed, falling onto her sheets that were still messy from the night before.
